Holiday Stars Shortbread Cookies

Ingredients for the melt in your mouth shortbread cookies

• 2 and 1⁄4 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon pure maple syrup
• 1⁄4 cup white sugar
• 1⁄4 cup pure maple syrup
• 1 cup room temperature unsalted butter
• 1⁄4 cup melted dark chocolate
• festive holiday sprinkles; we used snowflake sprinkles
• star shaped cookie cutter

Directions for shortbread cookie crust desserts 

1. Cream together the butter, salt, sugar and maple syrup until smooth. 
2. Slowly mix in the flour until you have a thick but not dry dough. Cover and chill for about ten minutes.
3. Place the dough on parchment paper and roll it out until you have an even piece that is a little over 1⁄4 inch thick. Slide the paper and dough onto a tray and place in the freezer for 10 minutes.
4. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and prepare your cookie cutters.
5. Remove the sheet of dough from the freezer for your cookie mold recipe shortbread and carefully cut out the shapes with your shortbread cookie cutter, the chilled dough should give you perfectly clean lines for your cookies.
6. Bake for 9 to 12 minutes-the bake time will completely depend on the size and thickness of your cookies along with how your oven temperature tends to run so keep a close eye on them as the first tray bakes so you’ll know for the others.
7. Allow the cookies to cool on a rack. Melt your dark chocolate per package instructions and then drizzle back and forth over the cookies. Quickly sprinkle with any extras you would like, I used snowflakes.
8. Allow to cool at room temp or pop back in the freezer for an instant set.
9. These are delicious right away, or will freeze perfectly if sealed in an airtight container.
