Orange Spritz Recipe: A Refreshing Citrus Cocktail
Beat the Heat with an Orange Spritz
We buy a lot of
fresh oranges and tangerines. In fact, I probably have about 20 clementines sitting on my counter right now. When they start to get a few days old, I start looking for recipes that we all might enjoy. Orangina is one of my favorite sparkling drinks so we decided to see what we could come up with that would taste great and be something that would appeal to the kids as well. Please note, that after the kids went to bed, we added Hangar One Mandarin Vodka to it and it was AMAZING! Fans of agua fresca will enjoy this fizzy variation on the refreshing classic. For the most ‘fizziness,’ create the navel orange mixture first as the recipe is written, then add the carbonated water by stirring it in. We hope that this Orange Spritz recipe post inspires you.
The Sparkling Orange Spritz
- 3 cups carbonated water
- 2 cups sugar
- 6 large Mandarin oranges, juiced
- 1 lime, juiced
Directions for Orange Spritz:
- Combine the sugar, orange juice, and lime juice in a sauce pot. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, then turn off and remove from heat.
- After the orange juice mixture has cooled, divide it among four glasses filled with ice.
- Top each glass with carbonated water as needed. Stir and serve.
Buying Mandarin Oranges
The best time to buy mandarin oranges is from mid-November through early February. This is the peak of the mandarin season, when the oranges are at their freshest, sweetest and most flavorful. You can find mandarin oranges at most grocery stores during this time, and they may be on sale. If you live in an area where mandarin oranges are grown locally, you may be able to find them at farmers' markets or roadside stands even earlier in the season. However, the quality of the oranges may not be as good as those that are shipped from warmer climates.
