Breakfast Rice Casserole Recipe
Breakfast Rice Casserole I wanted to share with you a breakfast rice casserole that we made recently for a brunch party. It features multi-grain rice, fresh veggies, ham, fresh thyme, cheese, and of...
I've been seeing dulce de leche at my favorite supermarket for the past couple of weeks so this grocery trip I decided to give it a shot and purchased it. So, here I was in my kitchen wondering what to do with a rather large jar of this golden brown spread. My idea? Dulce de Leche Waffles!
If you have never had dulce de leche before it tastes fairly similar to caramel. It's actually pretty delicious and sweet and indulgent so this makes it the perfect complement for a fluffy weekend breakfast (like waffles or even monkey bread).
Another thing that I love is that a little goes a long way, you don't need a ton of dulce de leche to get all the flavor in your waffles, so that's definitely a good thing if you are not too sure if dulce de leche or caramel is something you are going to like and want to stick with a small jar.
For me, the secret to making these Dulce de Leche Waffles so flavorful and delicious is mixing the dulce de leche into the batter. While reading recipes and browsing inspiration I found out that most people just top their treats with it (kind of like a spread), which is something that sounds delicious, but in my opinion if you really want to experience the full flavor explosion (in the best possible way) the best way to go is mixing it into the batter. And then if you still want more dulce de leche flavor just spread a bit more on top, because I mean, sometimes more is better right?
I also add a few coconut flakes to my Dulce de Leche Waffles but if you don't have it around you can totally skip it. Coconut flakes add a bit of texture and provide a bit of flavor, but they are definitely not a must.
oh boy dulce de leche and coconut and for waffles – this could be a new fav! I’d love to try these for ice cream sandwiches, too!
The waffles look amazing!
I love dulce de leche and I think it’s a brilliant idea to add it right into the batter.
