The natural world is teeming with wonders and breathtaking sights, encouraging us to seize every opportunity to explore them. In the United States alone, countless natural marvels draw travelers each year. Children enjoy these adventures as much as their parents do, making it ideal to seek out natural sites that capture their interest. Here are seven natural wonders of America that kids will delight in seeing, providing the perfect backdrop for a family vacation. We hope you love this post on the 7 Natural Wonders of the United States.
The Niagara Falls in New York have been a popular destination for countless generations of families that are in search of natural beauty. Stateside, the falls and the area around it fall in a protected park, so there is very little development and the entire family can explore the falls, upstream and downstream portions of the river and the forest surrounding it. Visit Niagara Falls both during the day and in the evening when the falls are lit up by a colorful light show that is sure to amaze children.
Children are typically amazed by things larger than themselves, and in the Redwood Forest of California, they can get up close and personal with trees that inspire awe in many. Redwoods take a long time to reach their full height and width, so this is a great opportunity to discuss conserving what remains of untouched forests while children try to figure out how many of them it takes to go around.
The Grand Canyon in Arizona is an international destination, attracting thousands of visitors to its gates every day. Kids will be awed by the sheer size, drop and length of the canyon, and the fact that they cannot see where it ends. There are a lot of kid friendly hiking options and activities hosted by the park rangers that families can all participate in together.
The Everglades of Florida cover some of the most protected area of the country, threatened constantly by development and the influx of people establishing their homes in the area. Not a swamp, but a freshwater river, the Everglades make up one of the most unique ecosystems you'll ever come across. Organize airboat rides for the most adventure, swamp tours can also be arranged around almost any theme and activity level.
Arches, Utah is one of the most photographed areas of the southwest, on account of the impressive rock formations that have been left behind by years of rain and wind. Take a hike with the family to see some of the most impressive formations during the day and then return at night to do some stargazing and count shooting stars.
The Carlsbad Caverns of New Mexico have some of the most impressive cave formations found in the country. The Big Room Cavern is the third largest cavern in America and can fit huge groups of guests comfortably. Kid friendly tours through the cave are given every day, and more adventurous options are available to those that want an exciting, dirtier trip into the caves.
While no volcano is entirely safe, some active ones, like Kilauea, allow visitors to view them from a distance. Road trips to the summit can be easily arranged using special access roads, providing children with a valuable lesson on how volcanoes shape landscapes. At the top, you can spot active lava flows in motion. It's remarkable how quickly you can transition from snowy peaks to lava flows and then sunny beaches on the Big Island of Hawaii.

It looks like I have a lot of traveling to do yet. I thought I traveled a lot but of the seven wonders you have on here I’ve only been to one. Hopefully this summer I’ll be able to go to another one because we will be there this summer. I want to check all of these off my list.
I always wanted to go to Hawaii. We went to Niagara Falls when I was a kid and it was amazing. We went to the Grand Canyon during a different trip and I was not impressed at all. I think it was because we went to Niagara Falls previously, the Grand Canyon just seemed like a huge hole in the ground. Oddly enough I went back as a teenager and wasn’t impressed either. I wish we could have gone to the caverns, those are definitely on my bucket list!
I have never visited any of these awesome locations. I would love to check out Niagra Falls or the Redwoods in Cali!
I would love to visit all of these. I have been to Niagara Falls, but it has been years ago and I don’t remember much about it. I would love to go back. I really want to see the Grand Canyon, but all of these are on my bucket list.
We had so much fun at Niagara Falls. would love to go back again soon. The next trip we have planned is the Grand Canyon.
These are all great places to go and explore. We are hoping to get to Niagara Falls this summer.
I have been dreaming of going to Hawaii some day. All of these places would be amazing.
I have only been to one of these…the grand canyon! And it was magical! I’d definitely like to go to CA for the redwoods some day for sure, and maybe some of these other places as well.
Pretty much every spot on your list is on my list of places to go with my family! There are so many cool places to see in the US.
I have always wanted to see Niagra Falls! All of these places look beautiful.
These all look like great places to see. The Grand Canyon is awe inspiring.
Wow you are giving me the travel bug! There are so many places on my bucket list!
I do wish I had traveled more with my kids when they were little. I still need to see more of our USA. I think now that my kids are young adults they have traveled more than me! LOL
It’s amazing how many beautiful, scenic places exist right in the UNited States. My husband and I would love to visit a bunch of these locations.
These are interesting places to explore. I’ve never been to any of these places, but we’re planning a trip to the US next year. Hopefully, we can visit some of these places.
Goodness, you make me want to pack up and start traveling. I’m going to FL next month and I hope we can work in a trip to the Everglades of Florida while there. I’ll add the other suggestions to my bucket list.
Hubby wants to get an RV and go across the country. Here are some great places to start.
I know that I have been to Carlsbad Caverns twice. We went through Utah one summer on our way back to Colorado. I think we stopped at the arches. I was lucky to see Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone twice, and countless campgrounds growing up.
I have currently seen zero of these wonders…I need to get out more!!
Such a beautiful world we live in! I would love to see them all with my husband and son. But we’ll head to the Grand Canyon first.
These are all great natural wonders to visit with kids that are in the United States. We have never been to the Grand Canyon and hopefully we can see it this summer. My kids are both men but we still do family vacations together. Thanks for sharing these 7 natural wonders.
I’ve got a lot of places still to travel on this list… I’ll have to keep these in mind for my next adventures with the kids : ) thank you!
All of these places look amazing. I would love to plan a trip to any of them!
