I spent years in marketing and communications. It just seemed to be the natural progression that my life had taken. I had always been a writer. In fact, I wrote my first novel at the age of 8. I say novel but it was really a journal my mother gave me that I used to write an entire story in. I loved writing that much and she could barely keep me supplied with new journals.
I wrote all through school including high school and college. Words never seemed to fail me. I had a good, solid career and I enjoyed it.
Everything changed when I had my first child. My son was born six weeks early and spent weeks in the NICU as a 4 pound newborn. Something changed in me the day that I first left that hospital without my son. I knew that I could never be a full time out of the home working parent again. I went back to work 3 months later, part time and two months after that, I quit my job completely because I wanted to work from home.
A few weeks at home and I discovered social media. Social media helped me to feel connected to the outside world even though I was at home. I got to interact with other adults about a variety of topics that interested me. If I didn't like that conversation, I moved on. Conversely, when I loved the conversation, I made some really great contacts. I met people that I am still in touch with today.
Social media completely changed my life. Once I figured out the things that I liked most, I jumped in and started a company. Then I started a blog. Today, I employ my husband (he works with me full time) and kids plus three other people. My family and I have never been happier.
One of the first places that I joined after starting my blog was the SITS group. They just got me and made it so easy to connect with other bloggers/social media people. This was and still is my tribe. I found people who 100% understand what I do because they also do it. I loved discovering new bloggers and working with some of my favorite bloggers.
When SITS combined with Sway group, I immediately joined and loved how easy it is to be a part of their network. My readers really respond to my sponsored content and I appreciate the work that I get from them. Sway has helped me earn an income to support my family and to be able to follow our dreams of traveling.
