Directions

  1. Select an 18 gauge craft wire for the ornament and hold the wire from an end without cutting it from the bundle. Use the looping pliers to make a small loop at the open end of the wire.
  2. You can print out a 5 point star pattern to use it as a guideline to craft the wire star pattern. Determine the size and length of each bar of the star. Leave the determined bar length after the loop and then use the flat nose pliers to bend the wire to a certain degree. You can adjust the bent parts later; simply bend the wire for now.
  3. Continue to leave the determined bar length and folding the wire to the opposite direction of its previously bent direction.
  4. To make a 5 point wire star, you will need to bend the wire 9 times. After making the 9th bend, bring the wire near the initial loop. This should automatically form the star shape; if not, and then simply adjust the bent wire to make the star shape.
  5. After bringing the wire near the loop again, coil the open end of the wire below the loop 2 times and then cut off extra wire.
  6. You can hammer the wire star to give it a flattened look.
  7. Take the memory wire and coil it around any one bars of the star.
  8. Insert a bead into the memory wire through its open end. Now draw the wire to the opposite bar and coil it around that bar 3 or 4 times.
  9. Now insert beads into the wire again and then draw the wire to the first bar (opposite to the current bar). Coil the wire 3 or 4 times again and continue to do the same until that point of the star is filled with beads.
  10. After filling one point (1 of the 5 pointy parts of the star) of the star, move towards the next point and start beading.
  11. Continue to bead and fill all 5 pointy parts of the star. This will leave the center part empty. You can keep it empty or you can also bead that part.
  12. Filling the centre is tricky but fun. Simply insert beads into the wire and check what size or amounts of beads are required to fill the centre; and coil the wire to the opposite bar each time.
  13. Once the star is filled with beads, coil the remaining wire around the current bar and cut off extra wire. Attach a piece of satin ribbon with the loop of the beaded star.
