I've used cheese ravioli in this particular recipe, but feel free to substitute whatever you have on hand: sausage, veggie, or even pumpkin ravioli (found at some specialty stores), would work perfectly with this recipe!

  • 1 lb fresh cheese ravioli (I get mine from Costco)
  • 1/4 cup salted butter (1 stick)
  • 6 fresh sage leaves, roughly chopped + 1-2 leaves for garnish
  • 2 crushed garlic cloves
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • salt to taste

Brown Butter Sage Ravioli RecipeDirections

  1. Begin by bringing a pot of water to boil until bubbles form on the surface of the water.
  2. Add the ravioli to the pot and allow it to cook for the duration of time specified on the package.
  3. As the ravioli cooks, take a large saucepan or stockpot and add a whole stick of butter to it. Heat the butter on low heat until it starts to bubble and turns a lovely shade of brown.
  4. Once the butter is heated, add crushed garlic to the pan and stir it around for about a minute until the aroma of garlic fills the air.
  5. Add sage and black pepper to the pan and continue cooking on medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until the butter is nicely browned, but not burnt.
  6. Once the ravioli is cooked to perfection, drain it in a colander until all the excess water has been removed.
  7. Add the drained ravioli to the pan with the butter sauce and gently fold it in until every ravioli is coated in the sage butter sauce.
  8. Serve the ravioli hot, and if you like, top it off with some shredded parmesan cheese.
