A toasted sesame seed bun is filled with Munster cheese, smoked ham, a fried egg, ripe tomato, and tender greens. The slightly runny yolk turns into a wonderful sauce. This thing is built to impress, and is easy to make. Simplicity does not mean flavorless, however. Be sure to use the best ingredients that you can find and afford. In a dish like this, each ingredient is on stage, so the better the starting quality, the better the finished dish.
Best Hot Ham Sandwich Recipe
Ingredients
- sesame seed bun, toasted and buttered
- 1 egg over medium
- 6 thick slices of uncured ham
- 1 slice Muenster cheese (best cheese for ham sandwich)
- 1 thick slice beefsteak tomato
- field greens
- salt to taste
Directions
- Toast the bun with a little butter.
- While the bread is toasting, grab your sauté pan (Cuisinart sauté pan with handle)
to cook the egg. Season with salt and pepper. - When the egg is 80% cooked, add the ham to the pan to warm.
- Build the sandwich. Bottom bun, then tomato, lettuce, ham, egg, cheese, and top bun. Be sure to salt and pepper that tomato, as well as the egg.
- Eat and enjoy…but don't forget the napkins. You will need them.
