Epic parenting fails. As parents, haven't we all been there at one point? I mean the point where we just have this epic parenting fail. I have had several epic parenting fails. I have done everything from forget the tooth fairy, to forget that I had removed a spare tire from my trunk for more room and then got a flat. I embrace my parenting fails for the most part because they are an opportunity to learn. Along the way, I think that I have learned a few things to prevent a lot of other parenting fails. Here are my 4 tips for powering through an epic parenting fail.

Always have a plan.

If there is one thing that I have learned about being a parent it is that with three children, I always need a plan. There is no fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants type travel or activities. We have to get a plan in place to go anywhere. My husband and I plan together, then go through the plans a few days before our trip.

We took a spontaneous road trip a few years ago, or at least we tried to. We barely made it out of our state before we started realizing all of the things that we were missing and needed to buy while on the road. The cost ended up being so much that we ended up going home and heading to a local theme park instead. We took the time to plan out the experience, so we saved money and had everything that we needed to have a great day.

Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst. 

This has always been my parenting philosophy. I am an eternal optimist. Ask pretty much anyone who knows me. I always see the world and think that the possibilities are endless. I have always been like that. However, when it comes to planning, I prepare for the worst.

We travel a lot and I like to think that I have the most complete first aid kit ever. I made two first aid kits and there is one for each of our cars. I prepare for the worst. This is just one instance.

Understand what you could do differently next time.

The most important part of learning is comprehension. I reiterate this with my children every day when I do homework with them and anytime I do something wrong, I want to know why. This is especially true when it comes to parenting fails because there is no chance I want to repeat one. I have three children. Any mistake that I make with the first one might be repeated with the next kid if I don't pay attention now and learn what I could do differently next time.
