We all want to do it, right? I am talking about capturing those amazing family moments. You know the ones that we will put on our Christmas cards. Or have framed in the house. The ones that we will send to grandparents or post on social media.
I love when I get a perfect moment on camera. I mean I really get excited. I love capturing moments but after having children, I quickly came to realize that the moments kind of capture you. I never wanted to be that mom that made her kids stand around posing for pictures so I could have….well lots of posed pictures.
Don't get me wrong, I do love posed pictures on occasion. However, the photographs I truly cherish are all candid shots. They were shots taken in the moment and many times they were captured as a bonus rather than a requirement. Those candid shots make the most amazing family moments.
I sat poolside one day reading a magazine and just letting the kids play. I picked up my camera as soon as I heard “Cannonball!!!” The results were fabulous.
My daughter was missing her brother when I snapped the above picture. It is one of my favorite pictures of her.
I always a love a big cheesy grin and will happily takes lots of pictures.
I always take a silly shot every time we take family pictures. After a few poses kids get tired. I also ALWAYS grab the camera when one of my kids says, “Take of picture of me, Mom.” This was one of those moments with my kids and their cousins.
Get everyone to come together every once in a while for a good, old fashioned “smile for the camera” picture.
This picture above is a picture that I took when my two girls were playing in the rain. While it is a little out of focus, I love the look on my daughter's face as she is dripping in rainwater. I was actually taking pictures of a craft that I was working on in the carport and was camera ready so this was perfect.

That is a cool prize! We travel a lot and actually have a road trip planned for next weekend up to New Hampshire.
What awesome moments you captured! Such beautiful pictures!
The picture of your daughter missing her brother conveys so much emotion and literally made me pause and look again. Beautiful picture, I guess it’s true a picture says 1,000 words!
Thanks Tracey! I really love that picture of her.
Letting them loose to have fun and encouraging silliness are my favorite tips! Those are important to making memories.
Great pics….this is a very neat contest. Entering!
All of those photos are absolutely beautiful!
These are all great suggestions. As a mother of an autistic child, who refuses to make eye contact 9 out of 10 times, I have had to learn to just snap away and hope for the best!
It’s an awesome prize! I have a few smash books – they are so fun!
Thanks for the guide on making memories. I keep forgetting that I even stopped printing pictures of my son. ,I have many albums from when he was younger but very little updated except wheat is on the computer. I have these great moments and they need to be printed out!
thanks for the reminder,Mitch
I love that picture of your daughter too. Sometimes I get so caught up with keeping up with my itinerary that I forget some of this sometimes.
Amazing prize! We don’t travel often or far if we do! These photos were great you captured some great moments!
I love the pick of your daughter missing her brother. What a great photo. I am so bad about taking pictures when we are out doing something fun. I definitely need to do a better job recording our memories.
These pictures are all really great.Thank you for the tips.
This is a fun contest. Alamo is a great company too, very reliable and convenient w/their car rentals!
I loved all of your tips for taking good photos. I tend to forget a lot of these and never really get a natural photo. The contest sounds like a lot of fun.
Fantastic photos! You really captured the moods and expressions. Thanks for sharing the lovely kids with us. They look so happy.
I also love candid shots, when they’re truly candid. My husband sometimes likes those fake candid shots and to me they’re just fake.
The picture of her missing her brother is a great shot. She looks so thoughtful and pensive in it.
Those are some great shots. You will have great memories to look back on.
Nice giveaway! I love candid shots from vacation. My favorite from 2 years ago is my son and husband walking in the sand.
I love the pics you got! So important to remember just to capture those moments, even if they’re not what you “pictured”
i love the snap away tip. I have to get my camera out more often though
Candid photos are the best! Great tips for a fun summer!!
