As a stylist or barber, it’s essential that you take steps to stand out from the crowd. After all, you have quite a bit of competition. And if you don’t find a way to stand out, you could blend in. If that happens, your business will suffer.

Fortunately, there are many ways to stand out in this crowded industry. There are many ways to show that you’re unique, which will work in your favor when finding new clients and retaining the ones that you already have. If all this sounds important to you — and it should — here are some of the many ways that you can stand out moving forward:

Find a Better Location

If you’re not getting enough business, there’s always a chance that it’s because you’re in a bad location. It may seem good to you, but people are finding it difficult to locate your business. And if that’s the case, you can’t expect to get much in the way of foot traffic.

Search your local area for potential locations for your new salon or shop. You don’t want to jump the gun by making a rash decision, but you should at least keep an open mind. If you find a better location, it could immediately help you stand out from others in your industry.

Get a Tattoo

You may not consider this an option, but it’s a pretty cool idea. With a stylist tattoo, people will always have something to remember you by. You’ll be the guy or lady with the scissors-and-clippers tattoo. Or the barber shop pole tattoo. You get the point. It’s something that helps you stand out. It’s something that gives you personality. It makes you unique, and that’s exactly what you want in your industry.

Offer Additional Services

You can offer as many services as you want, as long as you can keep up with the demand and you’re able to provide results. This can be as simple as offering free hair care tips to anyone who comes through the door. Little things like this can go a long way in keeping you at the top of your audience’s mind.

If you don’t currently offer any additional services, think about those that you could add in the near future. And of course, once you settle on these services, let everyone know about them. Tell your customers as they visit, put it on your website, and share it on social media.

Up Your Online Game

Speaking of your website and social media, do your part in becoming one of the top online brands in your local area. You can do this in many ways, such as by using an online booking system, updating your social media profiles every day, and partaking in conversations in forums.

If you don’t have the time to manage this on your own, hire a marketing agency to assist you. You may not be able to afford for them to do everything you want, but a little bit of help here and there can go a long way.

Provide Personal Service

This is where many stylists and barbers come up short. They enjoy their customers, but they don’t exactly provide personal service. Instead, it’s more like an assembly line. You can avoid this by learning your customers’ names, staying in touch in between appointments, and remembering key details about their life.

Personal service can be the one thing that sets you apart from everyone else in your industry. And best yet, it doesn’t cost a thing. It’s free to you but can really help to grow your business.

These are just a few of the many ways to stand out as a stylist or barber. If you’re ready to take your business to the next level, experiment with one or more of these ideas to see what works best for you. There’s a good chance that you’ll immediately find something that piques your interest and resonates with your audience.

When you stand out, people remember you. And when they remember you, there’s a better chance that they’ll continue to rely on you for your services. The end result is a long-term client list and the opportunity to generate more revenue.
