MapMyFitness Quaker Challenge
When we last talked about the MapMyFitness Quaker Challenge, I shared that there were several things that I was going to do this month. I promised myself that I would become more active and that...
I have mentioned several times how much fun I have been having this summer with the folks over at Skinny Cow. They have given me several missions and the really fun part about these missions is that it was 100% for me.
I got to involve friends and family (my sister) but they were 100% about me and my missions took me out of my usual parenting role. They gave me some really fun things to do like go to a concert with some friends, have a spa say with my sister and then finally, my last mission, I had a girls night in where we noshed on some healthy foods while watching a few of my favorite movies.
The box was packed! Inside the folks at Skinny Cow said:
Movies tell stories that stick with us forever. Host a movie night in your WoCavé with your girlfriends and show some of your favorite flicks. have the group come up with a list of the top 10 movies of all time and showcase how you designed your movie night at home. Snack on traditional movie treats like popcorn – but don't forget the Skinny Cow ice cream and candy!
Here's what came in the box:
1. Popcorn Factory popcorn
2. Garnett Hill Throw
3. TCM Classic Movie Trivia book
4. LG Blu-Ray Player
5. Classic Popcorn Bowls
6. Storage Ottoman
About a week before our big night, I took a poll of the five people attending and asked them what their favorite movies were. I knew that I liked these women for some reason. Every single one of them had the two movies below on their lists. And luckily I had both of the movies!
We started with The Wedding Singer which is one of my all time favorite movies:
Robbie works the crowd. Julia works the floor. He (Adam Sandler) is a wedding singer, able to charm even the most reluctant Aunt Tilly into a dance. She (Drew Barrymore) is a waitress at parties where Robbie sings. Both are involved with others. Both are right for each other. Enjoy while Cupid works this out. The Wedding Singer has its heart on its sleeve and a goofy charm everywhere that includes its throwback look at the styles and sounds of the 80s. But a romance and a movie like this is made to last.
We followed the first movie with Grease which is one of my most favorite movies from growing up.
John Travolta solidified his position as the most versatile and magnetic screen presence of the decade in this film version of the smash hit play Grease. Recording star Olivia Newton-John made her American film debut as Sandy Travolta's naive love interest. The impressive supporting cast reads like a who's who in this quintessential musical about the fabulous '50s. Grease is not just a nostalgic look at a simpler decade–it's an energetic and exciting musical homage to the age of rock ‘n' roll!
We might have even sung and danced a little. And a few of us (but mostly me) knew the words and moves to every single song/dance plus a lot of the dialogue. I tried not to be too annoying.
Well of course we had a healthy line up for the evening. I made some red pepper hummus, cut up some carrots and celery and then toasted some pita bread. We then had Ratatouille followed by grilled chicken wraps.
Then we ate the Popcorn Factory popcorn during the movie.
Besides polling for favorite movies, I also asked the women to tell me what their top three flavors were. All six of us had the same flavor at the top of our list. So I decided to make Caramel the flavor of the evening by serving everything pictured above which included:
Caramel Truffle bars (pictured above)
Since I couldn't find those, we had the Limited Edition Pretty in Pink Velvet Truffle Bars instead which were delicious!
Vanilla with Caramel ice cream cones
Low-fat vanilla ice cream drizzled with rich caramel, served up tall in a crunchy, chocolatey-coated sugar cone.
Low-fat caramel ice cream is doubly delish with caramel swirls and chocolatey-covered cone chunks.
Salted Caramel Pretzel ice cream bars
Low fat vanilla ice cream topped with layers of luscious caramel and crispy, salty pretzel pieces—all enrobed in decadent chocolatey coating.
What's a good party with a goody bag, right? All of my guests were given their very own bag of Skinny Cow Divine Filled Chocolates with Caramel (I got them from Amazon) to take home with them:
Skinny Cow Caramel filled chocolates
Velvety milk chocolate filled with luscious caramel.
YUM!
We had an amazing night. We watched movies that brought back memories and we hung out together like we haven't done in years.
Mission #3 was most definitely a success!
During the course of my three missions, my version of my own WoCavé changed a few times. I am definitely of the mindset that a WoCavé is a state of mind. It is not necessarily a place although it could definitely be a place as it was a few times during the missions.
A WoCavé is something that I could find at any time or place depending on what I am doing. A WoCavé is definitely a place that I aspire to go to much more than I have in the past few years. I don't need my own woman cave at home when a WoCavé takes me to places that I have always wanted to go anyway or that I used to go to when I had more time.
A WoCavé is a place that all women should go to. At least once. I certainly appreciate Skinny Cow sending me there three times.
