Exergen Temporal Scanner Review

The day that the Exergen Temporal Scanner arrived in the mail, my husband opened it without even asking me because he know how I am about my freakin' packages. There has not been a day since that I have not known my temperature at any time while my husband is home. I have naturally low body temperature. I am consistently at 97 degrees. But he tells me anyway.

However, as a constant, obsessive worrier the Exergen Temporal Scanner gives me relief. Because my husband provides me with hourly regular albeit slightly annoying updates. Some would find this annoying but secretly I am satisfied to know that my kid's temperatures are in the normal range. One less thing to worry about.

“The Exergen TemporalScanner infrared thermometer, which reads a temperature in just two seconds, is available at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Costco, Babies R Us, Toys R Us and Sam’s Clubs nationwide. It gives parents a comforting option for taking a temperature. Gentle as a healing hand against a child’s face, the Exergen TemporalScanner gauges body temperature in two seconds by capturing the naturally emitted heat from skin over the temporal artery, which runs across the forehead and is directly connected to the heart via the carotid artery.”

Check out this video with a sort of creepy baby in it (not the baby pictured here). The video fully explains how to use the Exergen Temporal Scanner in layman's terms. I learned a lot about the product just by watching this short video.

Seriously though? This thing rocks. It is fast. It is accurate. And it gives me peace of mind. Now my husband has a new toy and with it, he can play Super Dad by constantly monitoring the temperature of my children.

You can buy the Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer  or Scanner on Amazon.com.

This could explain why often my kids were fever free when they were sick: A major reason ear thermometers are considered inaccurate by medical professionals is because the positioning of the probe in the ear canal is inconsistent, thus creating inconsistent readings and frequently missing fevers.
Thanks for the op to win one of these – I’d love for my daughter to have it for my granddaughter.

  12. I have one of these thermometers and, too, love it! My mom bought one for me when I was pregnant with my son. I love it! The only time we’ve ever had a problem with it was when my mom kept forgetting to take the cap off of the top before using it, but that was absolutely a user issue!!

to use properly: Measure only the side of the head that is exposed. Any covering, hair, hat, etc. will prevent the heat from dissipating, and would cause the reading to be falsely high. This also applies if one side of the head is into a pillow.

I want this for myself! My daughter’s temps run very high, so we’re always making 2am decisions about the ER. This would help our accuracy.

” ambient temperature affects the skin temperature, and so the thermometer automatically measures the ambient temperature at the very same time it is measuring the temperature over the temporal artery. “

Second, at the same time, a patented system measures the ambient temperature of the site where the temperature is being taken. The patented “arterial heat balance” (AHB) software then synthesizes the two separate readings to accurately determine and display body temperature.

I learned that the temporal artery is connected to the heart via the carotid artery, directly leading from the aorta, the main trunk of the arterial system. It offers constant blood flow. It is the only such artery positioned close enough to the skin surface to provide access needed to take an accurate measurement.

As the scanner moves across a forehead, taking 1000 infrared snapshots per second, it is looking for a sequence that shows a rising edge, a peak, and a falling edge — then it knows to use that “peak” as the starting point for calculating actual temperature, which adds in the baseline average skin temperature and throws out readings too far outside the averages. Technology is so great!
