Energy Efficient Home Improvements for your Roof
Owning a home is one of the most time consuming, all-encompassing things I have ever done. I think that my husband would agree. I can think of 30 projects off of the top of my head that need to be done RIGHT NOW in my house. Seriously. We are slowly working our way through the list and trying to get at least 2-3 projects done each week.
So far we have been somewhat successful. We managed to clear out a ton of stuff from the front island and then bought pine straw to fill in the spots that needed it. We have 24 bales so far and we need about 30 more. We are waiting for it to not be in the 90's for an entire weekend here in Georgia. When that happens, we are renting a truck and picking up pine straw, dirt and sand.
Another upcoming project that we need to tackle is our roof and that's where we will need a metal roofing guide. There are a few boards on the underside of the roof that we intend to replace. We also will most likely need the replace the entire roof in the near future. When we do, I will definitely be looking to make energy efficient home improvements with the roof and with Sears Home Services, their experts can help you make changes to the outside of your home can make it work smarter not harder!
Where do you start when it comes to roofing?
Did you know that on average, a roof lasts about 20 to 25 years? A roof can need replacement much sooner for several reasons, including hail damage, poor attic ventilation, low-quality roofing materials or poor roof installation.
Energy-efficient roofing will also help you lower your monthly bills which in turn saves money. ENERGY STAR certification and proper insulation, shingles and other energy-efficient roofing materials can keep dollars from going up, up and away. These Energy-efficient solutions:
help maintain optimal indoor temperature.
help keep the rain and snow out.
maximize energy efficiency all year round.
possibly qualify for a government tax credit or rebate for using certain ENERGY STAR products.
The great thing about using Sears Home Services is that they offer complete project management which is something I really need after still trying to manage so many other projects. I know nothing about permits and I pretty much know nothing about roofing (outside of a 6th grade science project that I got an A on which incidentally was about energy efficiency and the color of your roof). Their turn-key service handles the measuring, ordering, permits, and scheduling. They do it all for you so that you can focus on what you need to focus on.

Wow this is great info – I didn’t realize Sears has this service! I’m considering getting a fixer-upper, and dread all the contractors. I will definite use Sears – and I want to do things right, too, and energy efficient!
OMG, they are banging on my roof as I type this. We are having our roof replaced TODAY with efficient shingles that are crazy windproof… which is where our damage was from!

I am all about making my home more energy efficient. Not only does it save money, it’s good for the planet, too.
We got terrible hail damage about 11 years ago and the whole neighborhood needed new roofs. Living in the Midwest, our roofs take a beating with the crazy weather. I am sure we’ll be needing a new one much sooner than the 20-25 year life span most roofs last.
I had no idea Sears did home services! This is something I would love to take advantage of!

I didn’t even realize Sears offered home services like roofing! We will keep them in mind the next time we undertake a project.

Our old house we had our roof replaced and it was such a pain. Where we live now we don’t own but they did quite a bit of roof work on our place last summer…. I had no idea sears offered anything like this!
This is such great information. We are trying to buy a house, and I have no idea what we should be looking for when it comes to roofing. I will have to keep this in mind.
That’s really awesome. I’ve been renovating since last month and I’ve been thinking about improving my roof for some time now. This will really help a lot! Thanks for all the awesome information!
I didn’t know that roof’s needed to be replaced every 20 to 25 years but that makes sense because it seems everywhere we’ve lived the roof has leaked from rainfall, I guess the landlords aren’t aware either. I love the savings of $500 on $1500 or more, that’s very helpful and being energy efficient winds up saving us money in the long run too.

Same here, Chavonne! I had no idea how long a roof lasted until we realized that ours needed to be replaced.

It’s amazing how fast they can replace a roof. I did know the life expectancy because I’ve had two homes where such work needed done and both gave that estimate. My SIL has a metal roof. I wonder if it will rust. It’s supposed to last longer than tiles.

Sears has so many great services. I will have to check out my roof and see if it need anything. With winter coming I would like to be sure my roof is in good shape.
Our roof is beginning to show signs of wear and I don’t even want to think about replacing it. 🙁 Though I do love the idea of a more energy efficient roof that will hopefully save us money over the long run.
This is my next investment. I am not that concerned about saving money, but I absolutely want to do my best to conserve as much energy as I possibly can. This is one way of making it happen.

I wish we have Sears in the Philippines. I am just renting for this moment so when I have m own home, I will consider this.

I had a friend just buy a new home and she is dreading doing all the work on it. Although it will be fun, like you said, it can be time consuming!
