Kidaptive Leo’s Pad 2: Educational app for preschoolers

My five year old got an iPad for Christmas. She doesn't use it a lot yet because I am trying to find age appropriate apps and things that she can do on it.

She does like to watch movies on it but when it comes to apps, I am pretty picky about what I will let her play and do on the iPad.

We recently had the chance to check out Leo's Pad Appisode 2 from Kidaptive.

ABOUT LEO'S PAD APPISODE 2 FROM KIDAPTIVE

Who knew that science for preschoolers could be so fun!  Your child will love building a rocket with young versions of Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo Galilei, and Marie Curie.  “Rocket to the Stars” is the second appisode in a continuous series of educational app stories called Leo's Pad.

Leo's Pad Appisode 1 has received five stars from Common Sense Media, The iMums, and AppCraver.  Reviewers call the Leo's Pad animation “superb,” “amazing” and “stunning.”

In this appisode your child helps Marie, Leo and Gally design and build a rocket by tracing and sorting rocket parts, mixing rocket fuel and guiding the rocket through space.

Created by educational researchers from Stanford University, award-winning writers, and animators who have made movies for the top animation studios in the world, each Leo’s Pad appisode is interwoven with games, puzzles, and activities designed to create measurable learning experiences.

As a child completes activities, the apps will measure the user’s responses along more than 70 dimensions of learning.  The games automatically increase or decrease in difficulty to create the optimal learning level for the user.  The adaptive technology makes the learning process not only more efficient but also more engaging and motivating for the user.

Coming soon, a “Parent Dashboard” will offer comprehensive feedback on a child’s achievement in these 70 dimensions, along with suggestions for how to support that child’s progress outside of “tablet time.”

Most importantly, kids adore interacting with Leo and his friends.

OUR THOUGHTS

The game was very easy to download and took no time at all to come up on my daughters iPad. She was able to open it right up and started it right away.

She loved the game and actually went through it twice. She loved the characters and really liked interacting with the app. She was telling me what was happening as she was playing along. She knew the characters right away and was able to tell me who was who.

I love that it kept her busy and I especially loved the smile on her face while she played. What I also like is that I did not have to read any directions or offer one bit of assistance for her to be able to play with the app. I love that it was intuitive enough for a tech savvy five year old to pick it right up and go. That makes me happy about an app. The fact that she enjoyed it and it kept he occupied is a win in my book.
