You’ve been trying to get your health and fitness in order, yet, you’re no closer to your goals today than you were when you started a few years ago. Perhaps you’ve seen some positive results, but they faded as quickly as time passes. Honestly, all you have to show for your efforts is a smaller bank account from all the failed health and wellness products, gym memberships, and nutrition plans you’ve purchased.

 

You don’t want to give up, but if you don’t figure out what’s going on soon, you’re going to scream. Believe it or not, there are lots of reasons you’re not meeting your health and fitness goals. Below are some common causes and solutions to progress in your journey. 

 

You Believe The One-Size-Fits-All Concept

 

If you want to lead a healthy lifestyle, you should eat a well-balanced diet, take a daily vitamin, exercise, and manage your mental health – right? Although that’s the general idea, there are many different approaches to improving your well-being. What you must remember is that everyone is different. Therefore, not every strategy or product will work the same for every person. 

 

Whether it’s deciding which foods to eliminate and consume or the best multi-vitamin and supplements to take, you have to determine which option is best for your unique mind and body. When you have a better understanding of your medical history and underlying issues, you can make more informed decisions about improving your health and wellness. 

 

For instance, instead of taking a general vitamin, you may need personalized vitamins to address deficiencies related to your health. Similarly, consuming whole wheat (which is generally healthy) may not be ideal for you if you have a gluten allergy. 

 

You Give Up Too Soon

 

When you live in a world where everything happens instantly, it can make you very impatient. The same is true for accomplishing your health and fitness goals. You want so desperately to lose weight that you ditch your fitness routine after only a few weeks if there’s no progress. You also set unrealistic expectations with your eating habits, like believing you can give up all meat in 30 days. 

 

While it would be nice to get the results you want overnight, it just doesn’t work that way. It took you years of eating poorly and barely exercising to get where you are now. Therefore, it can take a while to see results from an exercise routine or diet. Not to mention, not all results are visible. For instance, maybe you replaced body fat with muscle, which would cause you to see little change in your weight loss

 

As disappointing as it can be not to see progress during your health and fitness journey, it’s part of the process. Try to stick with routines or products for at least 60-90 days before deciding it’s not effective. Also, keep track of your progress through photos and regular checkups as there can be results you’re just not able to see yet. 

 

You’re Not Consistent

 

Anything worth having or accomplishing takes time, effort, and discipline. You can’t expect to get your health in order if you’re not consistent with your practices. Sure, outside responsibilities and hectic schedules can get in the way, but you must learn how to stay on track. 

 

Sit down and map out a health and fitness plan. Ensure that it will work with your existing schedule and obligations. For example, if working out in the morning doesn’t work, consider exercising during your lunch break or after dinner. Similarly, if preparing meals is too time-consuming, try meal plans, prepping, and batch cooking to simplify the process. Then do the best you can to stick to these systems every day. 

 

If you’ve had the same health and fitness goals for years with little to no results, there’s something deeper going on. Whether you believe in the one-size-fits-all concept, have unrealistic expectations, or lack the discipline necessary to push forward, you can make changes like those listed above to increase your chances of success.
