For years, I wondered why my great aunt Pat had only white dishes. Finally one day I decided to ask her and I loved her answer. I was about 19 when she told me that everything was white because it always matched. If something broke or got lost, it need only be replaced with something else white. Brand and pattern doesn't matter as long as the dishes are white. We hope that you enjoy our 12 Essentials for your Dream Wedding Registry.

Instead she chose to add pops of color through garnishes or ingredients in her food. So white it is when it comes to registering for plates, we are definitely going all white. Since we are having a farm table custom built for us right now, our choices tend to lean to the more rustic side. As we are both foodies, our registry is definitely filled with all kinds of kitchen goodies along with items to make amazing tablescapes. We hope that you enjoy our 12 Essentials for your Dream Wedding Registry.

1. cast iron skillet

You can use it on the stove, pop it in the oven or even bake in it. A cast iron skillet will last your lifetime. In fact, in some Southern homes such pans are passed down from generation to generation. My skillet was given to me by my grandmother and she used it for years. Everything tastes better coming from a skillet, y'all. This Lodge Rust Resistant 11″ Cast Iron Skillet is exclusive to Macy's and a great pan to start your new life with.

2. flatware

Pick something sturdy that looks good but will last. Silverware that is matte may become shiny over the years so I prefer solid and shiny. Our top flatware pick is this Monique Lhuillier Pointe d'Esprit Flatware Collection. It's also dishwasher safe.

3. set of good knives

This is something that every single home needs. A good set of knives is imperative and will enable you to cut everything from vegetables to a freshly grilled steak. Our pick is the Zwilling J.A. Henckels Knife Block Set which comes with 15 pieces.

4. casserole or baking dish

A casserole dish has so many uses that I can hardly list them all. You can serve anything out of this dish and even make an actual casserole. I have baked a cake in a casserole dish before and even boiled water for noodles. This versatile Circulon Symmetry 5.5 Qt. Covered Casserole can be used for a multitude of things.

For a truly chef driven kitchen, choose something like this Breville Sous Chef Food Processor is powerful and packed with all kinds of kitchen possibilities.

8. waffle iron

While I don't consider this essential, I bought a waffle iron when I bought my first house. I have never once regretted that decision. Ingredients

  • Chia berry coconut waffles
  • 2 cups of your favorite waffle mix, we typically use Kodiak
  • 2-3 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 to 1.5 cups almond milk

Directions

  1. Combine 1 cup of the almond milk and chia seeds together and let rest for about five to ten minutes, this will allow the chia seeds to start to absorb the liquid.
  2. Then mix in the coconut oil along with the waffle mix. If needed slowly add in more liquid until you have the consistency you’re looking for.
  3. Waffle irons will heat differently so keep a close eye on the waffles, we tend to heat ours to medium and then pull them after it beeps, about 2 minutes or until golden brown.
  4. A tip for keeping the outside crispy until you are able to enjoy them is to let them rest on a cookie rack so the air can continue to get to them.
