What’s hot in beachwear for men this summer

Summers on its way and that can only mean one thing for many people – planning for that well-earned vacation or short break.

Once you’ve decided on where you’re going to go, your attention then moves on to what you’re going to pack. Of course, a lot depends on what kind of leisure experience you’re expecting. But, for the purposes of this article, we’re assuming you’re going to hit the beach.

So here are a few ideas about how to focus on both style and practicality that will keep you comfortable too.

Shirts and T-shirts

Like so many areas of fashion, when it comes to beachwear the classics still rule supreme. For example, for a shirt that looks great but isn’t so expensive that you don’t mind exposing it to sea, sun and sand, go for the classic polo. For a smarter look, any kind of linen shirt is perfect, despite what some people believe. Choose a white one and, as your tan develops over your break, the contrast in colour will greatly accentuate it. In terms of T-shirts, plain is always best, so leave those ones with big logos and slogans for your streetwear instead.

Shorts and swim shorts

Moving on to shorts and trousers, the best place to start is with the swim shorts. Clever choices in these will give you pairs that can work just as well whether you’re in the sea or sitting down for lunch in a beach bar. The more tailored they are, the better. In fact, many of today’s styles can easily pass as shorts to wear away from the beach. A pair ofmodern jean shorts are also an essential part of your beachwear wardrobe. They’re casual, but classy enough if you want to move away from the swim shorts vibe.

And on your feet . . .

A classic pair of loafers will serve a number of purposes, even if you will need to shake out the sand if you want to wear them out in the evening. For more beach-specific footwear the you can’t go wrong with a good pair of flip-flops. These also have the added advantage of taking up virtually no room at all in your travel case as well as weighing next to nothing.

A word about color

When you’re looking at the full spectrum of colors available for your beachwear, let practicality and comfort guide you as much as the aesthetics. You know it’s going to be hot so reflective colours like white, pale blue and beige are always going to be the way to go. The fact that they are also matched by the tones of the surf, sky and sand just happens to be a happy coincidence.

A couple of combos that are sure to work

So, we’ve taken a quick look at the components parts of dressing for a beach. Now, how about a couple of outfits.

By far the easiest one is going to be the T-shirt and beach shorts combo. If you’ve a yearning for bold designs, then keep this to the shorts with a plainer tee.

When you’re dressing for sundowners or other evening events then a polo shirt and a well-cut pair of chinos are just perfect to give you a sharp silhouette that’s also casual enough to show that you’re on vacation.

Don’t forget the accessories.

A good pair of sunglasses don’t just look cool, they’re essential for your eye health too. So make sure to pack a pair with good UV protection. It’s also a good idea to have a hat to protect you from the strength of the midday sun. A baseball cap’s fine, but if you want a more distinguished look then a Panama can be a great choice too.

So, there you have them. Some style tips that will have you looking sharp for the beach. Now let’s bring on the summer.
