This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Upromise by Sallie Mae for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
When I was pregnant with my first child back in 2002, I wanted to set up a college account. By searching around online, I stumbled across this great website called Upromise.
Upromise is a rewards program where shoppers can earn cash back for college. It is free to join and members have received more than $750 million through Upromise. By simply starting your online shopping at Upromise.com at hundreds of online retail partners such as Target, Apple, Best Buy, Macy’s or Old Navy, families can earn five percent back for college on eligible purchases. If you use the Upromise credit card, you can get 10 percent or more cash back. Money earned through Upromise can be put in a 529 college savings plan, put towards student loans, deposited in a Sallie Mae savings account, or you can get a check.
Now you can save even more with Upromise by downloading the RewardU toolbar. I downloaded this last year and I continue to save at the places I shop at every single day. Whenever I open a new tab for the Internet on my compter, I get a screen like this:
Then I will put in the place where I want to shop:
Every time I go to a participating Upromise site, I get a message like this:
To date, I have saved over $2000 for my kids (there are three now) college funds. I have done all of this by making everyday purchases. I don't have to go out of my way because these are all places that I would be shopping at anyway.
I do, however, look first at Upromise when shopping online because if I need to buy something and I find a merchant that is part of the program, I will shop with them first.
This week I saved by shopping at Target. For my $149 purchase at Target, $7.45 is going into my Upromise account. It really couldn't be simpler to shop and save.
And the toolbar? Well that toolbar makes certain that you never miss a Upromise opportunity.
What are you waiting for? Start shopping!
I love UPromise! I’ve used it for a few years and have put some money away for my four kids 🙂 It like how you can add on cars, like if grandparents use a gas card and so on they can add it to your account and you get more %. It’s great!
I have heard of this site before, but didn’t exactly know what it was. However, it sounds like a really great site, especially if it helps one earn cash for college.
This is something I keep meaning to sign up for. I really dont know whats been stopping me. Thanks for the well needed kick
I have never heard of UPromise but I have 3 small grandkids and if we could help save for their college fund… that would be great. I need to have my Hubs check this out and see what he thinks.
Sounds like a good way to get started. Thanks again – will have to see what my husband thinks
How cool.
I will show this to my oldest son
UPromise is such a wonderful idea for parents to start saving for their kids college educations. Getting paid for making everyday purchases is a no brainer. Congrats on already saving up 2K! That is amazing.
Oh wow what a fab sounding toolbar – I love that it sounds like it really can help you save money on everyday purchases 🙂 x
I love the idea of this what a great way of saving money and well done on your savings so far.
What a wonderful plan it is!
I have a upromise account but I don’t utilize it nearly enough.
I haven’t heard of Upromise but this is wonderful. I will be downloading the toolbar.
WOW I did not know about this. Def need to look into it. Thanks for the info.
Wow, that’s a nice savings you’ve got for the education, I’m impressed. Thank you for sharing such a great program.
College is so expensive! Anything that helps keep the cost down and helps people save for it is a blessing.
I never heard of this before. What a great plan!!
I love this idea! I need to check out Upromise closer. I like the idea of saving money for my kid’s college just by making purchases I would be making normally
Great idea, however in the Philippines it won’t be of much use. Thanks for the info though 😀
Great info. Must look into this more. Thanks!
What a great program. I’ve never heard of it but it sounds so easy. I really need to start doing something!!
A great program. Upromise is excellent if you get started early!
I’ve been using Upromise for about 12 years now. They’ve been around for quite a while and I’ve set up accounts for each of the kids. I love that even purchases made by family and friends can be contributed as well. They are really awesome!
I am not familiar with this program but it sounds terrific. Congratulations on saving money for your children. I have to pay my college off so mine are on their own.
I have had uPromise accounts for my sons since they were babies. I love that they earn money from your regular everyday expenditures.
I have heard of Upromise before. I am glad to see you are well on the way to saving for college.
I need to do this, or get into something like it because there is no way I’d be able to afford college for my son or even myself (which is why i never went). The cost of education sucks…
This is pretty cool! I had heard of Upromise before, but wasn’t sure how it worked. I’m going to have to look more into this for my daughter (and any future children’s) college fund!
Oh my Gosh, UPromise is awesome! I have never heard of it but it worth trying! Thanks a lot for sharing! 🙂
