The Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5196 16 inch laptop from Staples is outfitted with an AMD Dual-Core E-1200 1.4 GHz 1MB processor, as well as 4GB of DDR3 memory which is expandable to 16GB. It comes with a 500 GB 5400 RPM hard drive, and comes with Windows 8 as an operating system. The laptop itself has a 15.6 inch diagonal widescreen display, which comes at 1366 x 768 native resolution. It also comes with an AMD Radeon HD 7310 graphics card.The laptop comes with 3 USB 2.0 slots and a one year warranty. The weight of the laptop itself is around 5.5 pounds depending on the final configuration, and also comes with an HD webcam, microphone, and built in stereo speakers. The laptop has WiFi and Bluetooth capability, and comes with an optical drive for DVDs.
The performance of the Toshiba Satellite in terms of watching high definition movies is not incredibly strong. The graphics capabilities of the laptop are somewhat limited by a variety of factors. While 4GB of RAM should be enough to run multiple applications, the processor will likely be the bottleneck in terms of data processing, and may mean slowing down during heavy loads.
The AMD HD 7310 graphics card is also a low-medium end mobile graphics card that can support minimal settings in most games. Most importantly, the 1366 x 768 native resolution is not optimal for viewing high definition movies, particularly due to the amount of widescreen devices present currently.
THE VERDICT
The Toshiba Satellite is optimal for users that want an affordable laptop to fulfill basic data and word processing, as well as internet and video viewing. The AMD E-1200 dual core processor is average in performance but enough for creating documents and surfing the internet. It also draws less power than Intel chips, so laptops would have more battery life and be more mobile. The laptop is also relatively light, at 5 pounds and 16 inches diagonally, meaning that users can carry it around as a mobile workstation.
These factors favor the Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5196 16 inch laptop as a mobile workstation for documents and internet instead of intensive entertainment center.

This laptop has lots of bells and whistles! I could use a new laptop BADLY! My poor laptop right now is slow and overheats! This is a really nice one, I am going to have to consider! Now I just need some money! 🙂
That is exactly what kept happening with my old laptop. I seem to burn through a laptop every 2 years or so.
We actually had a Toshiba for our first laptop and it lasted quite awhile. When it was time to get another one we went with HP this time around. I would definitely get another Toshiba in the future though. I’m sure my oldest daughter will need one of her own sooner than later.

It is a great laptop for word processing. My son uses it for school.
We use Excede satellite internet with this laptop, it takes about 30minutes to setup, and works well. Just point south with a clear view of the sky and you are set! It’s great to have if you are RV’ing and are in the middle of nowhere as it’s a great distraction. The laptop itself is pretty fast for it’s price as well considering we usually purchase Asus computers.
