TheAmerican Cleaning Institute® (ACI) recently conducted a survey and found that 86% of consumers are improperly storing laundry packets. Do youknow how to properly store laundry packets?
Liquid laundry packets are pre-measured packets of highly concentrated detergent, and just like other household cleaners, they need to be kept away from children. I never even considered this. Did you know that it is important to make it a habit to always store liquid laundry packets out of reach and sight of children? They should also be stored in their original package until they are ready to be used to prevent injury.
If you are anything like me, then you are on auto-pilot when it comes to doing your laundry. I never even thought about locking up detergent or any of my laundry products. I didn't know that there was a safe way to do laundry.Cleaning products are constantly coming into the marketplace. The selection is vast which also means that there are a lot more chances to not do things the right way.
Single-load liquid laundry packets have been around since 2012 and they are incrediblyc onvenient to use. They are often referred to as laundry packets or pacs. However they must be kept away from children.
The American Cleaning Institute® (ACI), a nonprofit organization representing producers of household cleaning products, launched their KEY Pledge safety education campaign in June 2013, which continues its commitment in keeping children safe from accidental laundry packet exposures and injury.
ACI is inviting you and your readers to take the KEY Pledge online for laundry safety at keypledge.com. It takes just seconds to take the pledge to keep single-load liquid laundry packets out of reach of children, and educate family and friends about the safe use and storage of these new laundry products.
You can start right now by taking the KEY pledge to follow ACI's simple steps to a safe laundry room and routine:
This is great information. We store our laundry soap on the shelf above the washer.
I never thought about it but laundry packs and small children would be bad. Great cause
Wow. I never would have thought to lock up my detergent. Thank you so much for bringing this up.
This is such an important post. I can’t figure out why kids are so drawn to those packets, but they certainly seem to be. I just use powder and keep it well out of reach of my boys.
Wow. This is really interesting. I never gave much thought to my laundry stuff since its all in the basement and no one goes down there.
I’m old school, I still use powder detergent! Those packs are definitely convenient though- and it’s always important to be safe with anything containing chemicals.
I had no idea this was an issue! I’m thankful now that our laundry room is in the garage.
This is very interesting. I have my laundry detergent up in a very high cupboard I can’t even reach without a chair or stool. I never really think about it just tuck it away. This is great info!
It never crossed my mind to keep the laundry detergent up high or lock it away. Thank you for sharing this important information!
I didn’t realize that this was so much of a danger. Fortunately I don’t have little ones in my home
We don’t have small children in our home. We do have pets though, so keeping cleaner away from them is important as well!
I hadn’t heard of the key pledge until now. Laundry safety, as well as any cleaner, is very important!
I didn’t even know it was an issue! You def. taught me something brand new today.
What a beautiful laundry room! We don’t use single-load liquid laundry packets, but it’s definitely important to keep all chemicals away from the kiddos.
This is great information about laundry safety. Thank you for sharing it with us readers. I currently keep my soaps underneath the sink or on a shelf above the washer.
We have always kept our detergent in the cabinets above our washer but I honestly never even thought about anyone eating it. How scary.
Never thought about this either but I don’t have children and little ones rarely visit, but when they do I will make sure to keep everything out of sight and reach!
Luckily, I keep my detergent in a cabinet above the washing machine. But this is helpful information who may not have thought about laundry room safety.
So scary to think of kids consuming these packets!! I definitely store mine for my toddler’s sake
I dont have kids but I can see the dangers of leaving your detergent out. It’s filled with so many chemicals and those gel pouch versions look like candy to toddlers…would hate for them to get ahold of them! Thanks for the post!
I can totally see how kids would want to take a bite out of those laundry packs! They do look like candy!
This is so informative. We need to hear this. Sounds so simple yet…. Thanks for sharing
