Dell XPS 13 Touchscreen Laptop with Infinity Edge Review
I'm a pretty simple gal. Family, a few good friends and my little ones are basically all I need to get by in this world. Normally I'm not one to try and keep up...
Robotics are a major part of our every day lives even if they are not right in front us. They assemble our automobiles, beam us information from other planets, and explore our deepest oceans. It is only natural to find robotics products tailored towards the consumer and even tech savvy kids.
Sphero 2.0 is the world’s first robotic ball that is about the size of a baseball. The robot can move around at a speedy 7 feet per second. Kids age 8+ can control from their smartphone or tablet via a Bluetooth connection to a compatible Apple or Android device.
Sphero can drive in any direction, turn on a dime, flip in the air, change colors and more! Sphero melds the virtual world with reality, letting kids engage with technology like never before. Sphero provides hands-on, open-ended play for hours of fun and learning.
The Plug-and-Play lessons are simple enough that a child should be able to understand and apply them. OrbBasic provides basic programming functionality so the user can program Sphero to follow paths, do tricks, spin a set number of rotations, and more.
Sphero 2.0 is promoted as a potential learning tool for educators to implement in their classroom. Orbotix, the company behind Sphero, created their apps with flexibility in mind. Elementary students can learn simple concepts such as math operations and basic logic while college-aged students can begin to learn programming with Ruby or create mobile apps.
Improvement on Sphero's original design was a part of Orbotix's vision for the 2.0 model. Sphero 2.0 is rugged, waterproof, and pet-proof. An additional Nubby cover can be ordered separate with the robot to provide better traction on outside surfaces. The tough, little robot can handle moderate drops without damage and includes a pair of small ramps to get Sphero jumping straight out of the box.
Sphero 2.0 is equal parts entertainment and education. The Apple Store and Android Play Store have about 30 mobile apps available (at the time of writing) for use with the robot. There is a utility app to help get the user acquainted and rolling with Sphero 2.0. The user can then dive into games like the Rolling Dead, Color Grab, and the Dark Nebula series. Sphero provides educational opportunities through apps such as MacroLab and OrbBasic.
Don’t forget your Nubby! Protect your Sphero against the elements with custom Nubby Covers. Not only do Nubby Covers protect against scratches and scuffs, they also give you unbeatable traction. Nubby covers are available in four unique hues. You can find Nubby Covers on GoSphero.com for $14.99
