I have so many great childhood memories and the majority of them include my father. He was a wonderful father and really had a lot to do with the person I am today.
Growing up he worked three jobs for as long as I can remember. He was always busy but he always had time for his daughters. My father was a huge influence in my childhood and he continues to be one today.
There have been many instances in my adult life where he has really helped me and given me guidance to handle any situation. When I was ready to buy my first house, my dad was there every step of the way. We walked through many houses together as I weighed the pros and cons of each. Buying my first house was a huge deal and having him there made it so much easier.
Fast forward several years later. I was newly married and we were outgrowing my small starter home. We wanted to have children but there really wasn't much room in that house for more than house. He convinced me that my husband and I needed to buy our first house together. I was nervous about this but he provided great guidance to us so that we got the perfect house for our family to grow into.
We spent a lot of time looking for the perfect house and with my father's guidance, we saw everything that was available in our price range around the area where we wanted to live.
The big question for us was what to do with my starter home. My father told us to rent it out and that the equity that we had in the house would grow over the years. He told us that this money could help pay for college for our children. It was one of the best decisions we made. He has helped us keep the house occupied over the past 10 years and as we continue to build equity, it is nice to know that we will have a way to pay for college for our children.
My dad really shaped my childhood and he has continued to share that same wisdom well into my adulthood.
