Living with depression has never been easy. For the longest time, I had no clue what it was and what I was going through. I felt tired and had no energy. Things that never made me upset before would suddenly make me cry. It was strange and incredibly tough not to be able to put a name to what was going on.
Years ago and still even now, there is a stigma associated with depression and there weren't a lot of places to go to get information. While I still feel that stigma sometimes, I mostly ignore it. I was in my mid-20's when I realized what it was and began to take medicine for it. Taking medicine and making a few other changes has absolutely changed my life for the better.
One of the challenges of living with depression is really taking charge of how others treat you. For me, depression is like any other disease. It is real. It exists and the changes I made in my life control it.
