How to Prepare for a New Puppy
How to Prepare for a New Puppy Bringing a new puppy into your home is an exciting experience, but it's also essential to be prepared for the challenge of being a good dog parent....
That is Buckley. We rescued Buckley and he changed our lives. Buckley then made us want to have children and take the next step. We loved him that much and we felt like we could do this parenting thing. Buckley was an amazing dog and we were so lucky to have him for 13 years and we were just as thrilled when we became parents. Our children (once we had them) grew to love Buckley as much as we did. We hope that this October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month post inspires you.
I still miss Buckley a lot and so does everyone in my family. Buckley was rescued while killing chickens in Tennessee. Very weird story but that showed he was incredibly resourceful. He used to lay next to the crib of each child throughout the night as their protector. It was so sweet. He also ate Pedigree dog food from the moment that he was rescued so we just kept it that way after he lived with us and we fed him plain dog treats as well. If Buckley hadn't been found and taken in, he never would have come into our lives. We are so thankful that the shelter had the room and the funds to take on another dog. To this day, we are adamant about giving back to shelters and doing our part to rescue dogs everywhere.
Around two years after we lost our beloved Buckley, we rescued another dog. This is our new puppy, Teddy:
Look at that sweet little face. Teddy is a long-haired miniature chocolate dachshund and incidentally, you can follow Teddy and all of his extreme cuteness on Instagram where he is Teddy the Hotdog. Teddy joined our family at a really good time because we were ready to love another dog. We weren't even actively looking for a dog when we found him. Once we met him, we couldn't leave him. Especially my youngest daughter who became afraid of dogs after losing Buckley. This was the first dog that she connected with. I almost cried.
We all love Teddy now but my kids are really careful to point out why they still love Buckley too. It all started with Buckley. Our sweet little guy from the shelter. I wouldn't change a thing. We still do our part and we just stocked up at Sam's Club last week on Pedigree for our new puppy. We got Teddy PEDIGREE PUPPY Targeted Nutrition Chicken Flavor Dry Dog Food.
The story of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month starts in 1981. The American Humane Association, a leading animal welfare organization, spearheaded the creation of this month-long campaign to raise awareness about the plight of shelter dogs and encourage adoptions. Back then, shelters faced significant overcrowding, and many dogs struggled to find forever homes. Adopt a Shelter Dog Month aimed to change that narrative.
Today, Adopt a Shelter Dog Month is a national phenomenon, supported by numerous animal welfare organizations, shelters, rescue groups, and even celebrities. While October is the designated time for focused efforts, adoption is important year-round.

Well besides the incredible philanthropy we described above, the food is also pretty great. One 16.3 lb. bag of PEDIGREE PUPPY Targeted Nutrition Chicken Flavor Dry Dog Food is formulated for puppies with a delicious (I cannot attest to this but I believe them) chicken flavor. Pedigree not only includes DHA for healthy brain development, it also helps dogs develop a strong immune system plus it contains calcium & phosphorus for healthy teeth and strong bones.
Did you know October is Pet Adopt Month? You can adopt a dog like we did. Or if you have a dog, head to Sam's Club where you can stock up Pedigree is helping to feed shelter dogs by donating one bowl of dog food for every Pedigree dog product purchased at Sam's Club in October. I love this because Pedigree provides nutritious meals not only for my pet but also for pets in need. Remember, every dog deserves a loving home, and every day is a chance to make a difference. We hope that this October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month post inspires you.

My dog, Milo, is a rescue dog. I love puppies, but I think adopting was the right thing for us to do in our family.
I think it is great that Pedigree is donating one bowl of dog food for every Pedigree dog product purchased at Sam’s Club in October. This campaign really makes a positive difference.
OMG. Teddy is the cutest! So sorry for your loss of Buckley. It sounds like it happened a while ago, but it’s always hard to loose a four legged member of the family. Thanks so much for adopting. Shelter dogs have it rough.
Awwww cute puppies. I’ve tried Pedigree once and unfortunately my boxers weren’t ever able to eat it because of their extremely sensitive stomachs.
Buckley was an adorable dog! And Teddy is super cute, too! I’m glad the kids still point out that they still love Buckley.
I would much rather adopt a dog in need. There’s so much we can do to help. Glad Pedigree agrees!
Teddy is adorable! We always adopt our animals from shelters. I think it’s great that Pedigree is helping out animals in need.
Adopting is so amazing! We don’t use pedigree but I think this is absolutely amazing of them! Love it!
Buckley and Teddy are absolutely adorable. We don’t have any pets, but *when* we do get one, it will be through adoption.
I have always used Pedigree for my dog food needs. I love that they help dogs get adopted. Buckley and Teddy are so cute i want to cuddle them.
Over a year ago we rescued a dog. And the kids just love her.
Teddy is absolutely adorable! This program seems lovely, I have always loved Pedigree!
Ho my goodness they’re cute!! My grandparents always used Pedigree. It’s been around awhile!
When and if we do decide to get a dog we are definitely going to adopt a dog. I hate seeing dogs in shelters without proper homes. It’s good to know I can do something to help.
We like Pedigree too. We have two rescue dogs!
I love Pedigree!! We always gave it to your dogs when I lived at home and last year me and my husband rescued a Husky and that’s what we feed here! Wouldn’t go with any other food!
I can’t even look at these adorable pics. My boys have been asking for a dog but we don’t have one yet. These pics make me want to give in!
What cute dogs. If we get a dog, it will be a rescue pet as well.
Buckley is super cute! We love feeding our dogs Pedigree. 🙂
