Did you know one in four children has an undiagnosed vision problem? Right now when you purchase individual vision insurance from VSP Direct™ as a gift, a child in need receives a free eye exam and glasses. That means when you give the Gift of Sight from VSP, you give twice. Find out more at www.givevspdirect.com/eyegiveback. Thanks to VSP for sponsoring this post.
Did you know that one (1) in four (4) children has an undetected vision problem? Did you know that about 20% of children struggle to read because of vision problems?
In fact, by the age of five all children should have completed three eye exams, but 76% of kids are still not meeting that benchmark. Ten million American students have vision conditions that can impact learning. An annual comprehensive eye exam can ensure that correctable visual problems don’t become permanent.
It was many years ago that I remember sitting in my class at school and not being able to see to the front of the class. I was squinting and getting some pretty big headaches. I needed an eye exam but we had to wait until my parents next pay day because we didn't have the money. In fact, when I got the exam and it was determined that I needed glasses, we had to wait for one more pay day so that we could buy them.
My kids have an eye exam every year when we visit their pediatrician. They also have another one at school each year. If I hadn't taken the time to correct my vision, I would miss out on seeing those beautiful faces above. Or the sweet faces of these guys:
This year I am gifting my mother with VSP Direct™ because she really needs an eye exam but lives on a fixed income. She could really use this!

I remember it being very surprising finding out my kids needed glasses. It really seemed to come out of nowhere when we had a vision check.
My 10 year old is in glasses and has been since he was 7. It was discovered at his school eye test and sure enough, when he went to the eye doctor, he needed glasses.
What a great campaign, I am very glad I personally didn’t need glasses. It must be tough at a young age having to have them, I have no idea what it is like.
What a great way to give back, not every company would give every time someone buys something that they would normally purchase anyway. I’m going to spread this around.
This is an amazing campaign. I did not know the vision statistics. I am going to go donate my old glasses so they can help someone in need.
We have VSP through out insurance – i wonder if the same applies to company policies. My husband and I and all our kids have sight issues!
I’ll have to pass the word to my mom. She is on a fixed income, too.
This is such an amazing thing that VSP direct is doing for so many. It is awesome that you can gift insurance to others which in turns helps so many in need. This truly is a beautiful gift anyone can give. Thanks for sharing.
Two of my kiddos have glasses, both have had surger on their eyes too. Vision is super important to me and making sure kids get the proper treatment is too!
VSP Direct sounds like a great option and so affordable too. I had to wear glasses as a child and my daughters did as well. I wish I had known about companies like VSP Direct back then.
That’s so awesome that they’re donating the eye exam and glasses to the children in need. Some parents have no idea that they’re children are having a hard time because they’re not seeing well – and alot of parents out there struggle financially. Excellent initiative!
I’ve never heard of VSP Direct before. Thanks for sharing that as I just found out I need glasses to read. I’m also going to make sure my kids are having vision checks regularly.
This is seriously a great post! Having bad eye sight is the worst! Thanks for sharing!
Although my kids don’t seem to have any eye issues (and neither do I or my husband) I’ve been procrastinating taking them to the eye doctor. I should take them, if only for piece of mind!
It’s so sad knowing that kids are going without eye exams because they can’t afford it. I had never seen the stats of how many children actually have eye problems. What a great program.
Very nice program VSP Direct has offered and I’ll be checking into this – I didn’t know about our Nation’s children’s eyecare situation – great post
What a fantastic campaign, my dad wears glasses, everyone deserves to see properly! Eye exams should always be free.
That’s scary statistics. I take my kiddos in every year to have their eyes checked. This is a really great program that eyegiveback is doing.
I actually have VSP insurance for my daughter – our vision insurance through work stinks and VSP is much better! It really helped us save money when it came time for her exam and getting her first pair of glasses!
What a great program. We are very lucky to have great vision insurance for our family but a lot of people don’t have that luxury.
Eye care is so important, what a great campaign to raise awareness. I’ve never needed glasses, hopefully my son will be the same.
That’s a pretty high statistic for children with vision issues. I wouldn’t have thought it was that high. My brother was one of those kids.
I discovered that I have problem with my vision when I was in third year high school. I was seated at the center of the class and I could not see well. I had an eye exam and learned that it was time to wear eyeglasses.
I didn’t know about those facts concerning vision problems among children. That is sad, and it reminds me of my friend’s son who had to wear glasses at age 5. Anyway, this is such a great campaign.
Giving a vision insurance policy as a gift is something I have never even thought about. What a fantastic idea!
This is a great cause and VSP is a great company Actually, I could use some new glasses!
Amazing campaign and a very great way to give back! I’m grateful that my eyes are still perfect even though I’ve been spending so much time on computers since college (took up computer science).
omg just love it!!!! It’s awesome when companies give back to those who are in need! I wore glasses as a kid & my parents had no idea I had vision issues until I was in school and had an eye exam in kindergarten by the school nurse… so I definitely believe that statistic! Even kids don’t know they have an issue lol
We have been customers of VSP for a very long time and we are satisfied with their service! What a wonderful thing they are doing with VSP direct! 🙂
UGH- bad eyesight, the bane of my existence. I am always so jealous of my friends with 20/20 vision. Thanks for sharing this service! I’ll be sure to check it out.
