Did you know that about 2/3 of otherwise healthy babies may experience frequent spit-up during their first 3 months, with about 50% spitting up every day? Parents often associate frequent spit-up and irritability with acid reflux, about two thirds of otherwise healthy infants may have uncomplicated reflux.
Several years ago our oldest child was born. He was six weeks early and my water had broken but I had no idea until several hours later. When I arrived at the hospital, my child was in distress and I had to have an emergency C-section because the cord was wrapped around his neck.
I gave birth to a beautiful, 4-pound preemie and while he didn’t get to come home with us for a few weeks, he made our lives complete. He spent several weeks in the hospital gaining weight and developing his sucking reflex. One of the things that the hospital did was to put him on Enfamil A.R. He was frequently spitting and they were worried about him getting all of the nutrition he needed.
Enfamil A.R. is the #1 selling brand of formula for spit-up and after doing our research, my husband and I came to the conclusion that we agreed with the doctor’s recommendation. Enfmail A.R. is clinically proven to reduce spit up by over 50% in infants with frequent regurgitation, while still providing the complete nutrition your baby needs to reach key milestones. Since this was a huge concern of ours and of our doctor, this seemed like a logical choice, and I am glad the doctor recommended it.
Our son struggled with spit-up (GER) for the entire first year of his life. I worried a lot about him losing important nutrients so I knew that we made the right choice when it came to formula. While it is common for babies to spit-up while their digestive system develops, and every baby has periods of fussiness and irritability, it is tough to see your own child going through something like this. Enfamil A.R. for us, was a perfect choice for uncomplicated reflux (GER).
Uncomplicated reflux (GER) may not be related to excess acid production. Therefore the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends conservative management and lifestyle changes as the first line options. They advise against the overuse of medications that reduce the production of gastric (stomach) acid. We were all too happy to try a formula versus giving our son medicine and it turns out, that was the right thing for us to do.
Gastric acid plays an important role in the digestion of nutrients and in supporting the immune system. As our son was often spitting up, nutrition was a concern for everyone involved.
In cases of uncomplicated reflux, the AAP recommends the use of lifestyle changes, like burping more frequently and holding the baby upright after feeding, as well as using thickened feedings such as Enfamil A.R. as a first line option. This is exactly what our doctor had us do with our son and he began to thrive after a few months.
Enfamil A.R. meets the AAP recommendations and provides the benefits of thickened feedings with more balanced nutrition and less hassle compared to adding rice cereal to formula. This makes me feel good about giving Enfamil A.R. to my child. So good in fact that we gave our third child, who was not born premature, Enfamil A.R. as well when she was experiencing GER. It worked just as well for her.
Let’s face it, babies aren’t easy. There is no instruction manual so we have to rely on our instincts as parents and do our research. Make certain to consult your pediatrician before pursing any potential remedies.

Love Enfamil! This a great formula to help babies with GER.
My daughter had pretty bad reflux as a baby. This would have been so helpful!
This is such a life-saver for new parents. It seems like GER is extremely common so it’s nice having an easy solution.
Man, I could have used this when my oldest was a baby. She would projectile spit up for the first 2 months of her life. It was horrible!
That sounds like a really scary welcome to motherhood for you. Thanks for your testimoney about enfamil. As I am trying to conceive I am thinking alot about what I will feed my baby.
I didn’t know Enfamil made formula specifically for GERD. I’m so glad that the doctors were able to provide you with a good formula solution for your preemie!
It can be so stressful when you have a newborn that doesn’t feel terrific. I’m so thankful there are products available to help them more comfortable. Sounds like Enfamil is a great choice.
I was a preemie, too. I was a few months early and lived in an incubator for 6 more months until I could go home. It is good to know that their are products out there which help keep all babies health in order.
This would have been a welcome product when my son was a baby. He had horrible gerd.
We love Enfamil! It’s all I used when the boychild was little and it worked. Thanks for the info, I had no clue what ger was.
I have not heard of GER but it all makes sense. I think the most difficult thing with a baby is figuring out what is normal and not to get help for this type of condition. Love that Enfamil helps!
Those are gorgeous photos of you and your baby! It sucks for babies to experience reflux they have no idea what’s going on, but it is great that there are options like enfamil to help them out!
No kids yet for me but I realize that babies do spit up a lot in the early months. I thought it was linked to teething to be honest.
My sister had a premie and she had a hard time latching when it came to breastfeeding. Thank goodness there were products like Enfamil to help get her the nutrition she needed until she learned to latch on.
