Directions

  1. Turn the slow cooker on to saute (high) mode (alternatively, if your crock pot does not have this mode, use a pan on the stove through the browning of the meat step and then transfer to the crock pot).
  2. Heat the olive oil.  Blend the garlic, carrots, celery, bell pepper, and onion with the stock in a blender or food processor.  Do not puree the vegetables, you just want a fine chop consistency.
  3. Add the vegetable/stock mix to the heated oil and cook for about 10 minutes.  You want the vegetables to soften.
  4. Add the meat and brown.  Make sure you break up the meat well as it cooks.
  5. Add the wine and allow it to reduce for about 10 minutes.
  6. Turn the crockpot on low and add the rest of the ingredients, except the basil. Cook on low for about 6 hours.
  7. Remove the Parmesan rind if used.  Add the basil and season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Toss with your favorite pasta and enjoy!

Why Do People Love Spaghetti Sauce With Lots of Meat

Taste and Texture: Meat is a good source of savory umami flavors, which many people find satisfying and delicious. Adding a lot of meat to the sauce naturally intensifies these flavors, creating a richer and more intense taste experience. Meat is a protein source, contributing to the feeling of fullness and satisfaction after eating. A sauce with a high meat content can be more filling than one with less meat, especially for people with high protein needs or active lifestyles. Ground meat in a sauce provides a textural contrast to the smooth noodles, adding textural complexity and interest to the dish.

Cultural and Personal Preferences: In some cultures, meat is seen as a symbol of wealth, status, and abundance. Having a dish with a lot of meat might be seen as more celebratory or special. Additionally, certain cultures may have traditionally relied on meat as a primary protein source, leading to a preference for dishes with higher meat content. Some people simply have a stronger preference for the taste and texture of meat, leading them to enjoy dishes with a higher meat-to-sauce ratio. This could be due to individual taste buds, dietary habits, or simply personal culinary preferences.

Practical Considerations: Adding more meat can sometimes make a dish more filling and stretch it further to feed more people, which can be helpful for families or those on a budget.

Diets high in processed or red meat can contribute to various health risks. Moderation is key, and individuals should consider their personal health needs and dietary restrictions. Meat can be more expensive than other ingredients, so using a lot of it can increase the overall cost of the dish. While some people enjoy the intense meat flavor, others may find it overpowering and prefer a more balanced sauce with a blend of meat, vegetables, and spices. The preference for spaghetti meat sauce with lots of meat is a personal choice based on individual taste, cultural influences, and practical considerations. Moderation and dietary balance are important factors to keep in mind.
