Beef Summer Grilliance – Mediterranean Grilled Beef Recipe

We recently had a get together to cook out for some friends and family. The menu was none other than beef and anyone who knows my husband knows that is pretty much what he serves whenever he cooks. The guy loves beef and he especially loves trying out new recipes.

In true Jason style, the guy never met a recipe that he followed exactly. He always looks at the recipes and says what I can do differently. Most importantly, he says how can I make this something I can throw on the grill?

So we found this recipe on the Beef wesbite for Mediterranean Braised Beef. He thought that the flavors would be perfect and since the receipe wasn't quite right for grilling out, he made a few changes.



2 pounds of skirt steak
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
2 small onions, halved, sliced
4 medium shallots, sliced
1/4 cup chopped pitted dates
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon black pepper


Make a steak marinade out of the oil, water and vinegar. Pierce steak with fork multiple times or use meat tenderizer. Add onions, shallots, dates, salt and pepper. Marinate for 3-4 hours.

Lightly coat skirt steak with flour and place on grill to cook to desired temperature.

Carve steak and serve. We served the steak with grilled zucchini (grilled with salt, pepper, olive oil and fresh, crushed tomatoes).

This was such a huge hit that several people asked for the recipe. There was not one piece of steak left. It really way delicious.

    This sounds wonderful! Do you chop the dates up finely so that it permeates the marinade?
