The ASUS MeMO Pad 7 is an economical tablet that provides a reasonable amount of computing power for the price. At just over $100, the MeMO Pad 7 is one of the low cost brand name tablets on the market. The 7″ screen puts it on the smaller end of Android tablets, though a number of consumers report that 7″ is the optimal size to allow one-handed operation.
SOFTWARE
The MeMO Pad 7 is a very up-to-date tablet. It ships with the latest version of Android (version 4.4, codenamed KitKat). Like most other Android products, the software is customized by the manufacturer. ASUS called their customizations the Zen UI. The Zen UI provides customizable themes and a personal assistant application to supplement the standard Android calendar and utilities. Additionally, the MeMO ties in with several third-party content stores, where users can purchase music, digital magazines, and more.
HARDWARE
The 7″ screen features a 1280 x 800 resolution (216 pixels per inch) HD IPS Display with 170-degree wide viewing angles. This isn't particularly high or low end for a tablet of this size. While it's not full HD, it should be high enough resolution that text and images don't look choppy. It has an IPS screen, which gives better colors and improved off-angle viewing over a traditional LCD panel.
The quad-core Intel Atom processor is quite powerful, and the included 1 GB of RAM is average for Android devices. 16 GB of storage are included, and there's a microSD slot to expand that by up to 64 GB. This is enough to store several full-length, HD movies, or thousands of songs and pictures.The volume and screen on / off buttons are located on the back, rather than the side, of the tablet. This may require some adjustment for users familiar with other Android devices.
CAMERA
Aside from these couple buttons, the front and rear facing cameras are the only noticeable design features. The rear camera is centered on the device, but the forward facing camera is slightly off-center. The tablet boasts a best in class 5MP autofocus rear camera with 100-picture continuous burst shooting and 1080P video recording all with a 1.2MP front camera which makes video chat a snap.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
The ASUS MeMO Pad is a fairly nondescript tablet in terms of design and appearance. The inside boots slightly above average specs, and the tablet comes at a price lower than the Nexus 7 and other competitors. The tablet is available in a variety of colors. The tablet also comes with complimentary 16GB of cloud storage for 1-year with ASUS Webstorage.
