Easter is quickly approaching and if you are anything like, then Easter baskets are on your mind. I spend so much time trying to figure out what to put in my kids' Easter basket that I thought this year, I would go straight to the source, my tween daughter. She is an gift giving expert when it comes to really knowing what her friends and family want.
What we also want is as little candy as possible and I want them to get things that they will actually appreciate plus use. So for several years I have been very conscious of reducing the amount of candy and giving them more practical gifts. Below are just a few of our suggestions that are loved by tweens.
Awesome Alternatives to Put Into Easter Eggs – Welch's® Easter Fruit Snacks

Money.
Instead of buying candy each year, we take $20 and break it down into one five and 15 ones. Every Easter egg gets $1 and there is one golden egg with $5. My kids would much rather have their own money than candy.
Seed packets.
All three of my children love picking out what they plan to grow each year. We don't have a garden, this is all in large pots on our porch so if space is an issue, container gardening works well. You can easily stuff seed packets into plastic Easter eggs or you can grab these adorable seed paper bunny shapes for the eggs.
Lip balm.
I grab several of the round lip balms (check your local drugstore) because they easily fit into eggs and I honestly don't know a single person who would turn down a lip balm. My kids love getting lip balm.
Origami Paper.
Loose leaf sheets of origami paper can easily be rolled and stuffed into eggs. I did this last year and my kids spent the entire afternoon making fun origami shapes. My husband and I even joined in. We had so much fun and learned how to create lots of different things. I still have one on my desk to remind me of the fun we had together.

Yum yum! I’m always trying to find alternatives to candy that aren’t super unhealthy. These look like fun because they’re still festive and sweet! I bet my daughter would love to get them in her Easter basket!

Such great ideas for candy alternatives (I eat those fruit snacks all the time – yum!)! Growing up, my family would actually hide coins and dollar bills inside the plastic eggs – I definitely preferred that over finding candy! The chore and kid coupon idea is super clever too!
I like this growing trend of not giving kids just straight candy for their entire easter basket. These are some amazing other options to stuff a basket with!
