My kids have always been a fan of video games. From my son’s preference of games like “Skyrim”, to my daughter’s favs like “It Takes Two”, they have spent a fair amount of time on their gaming devices. We’ve tried everything from the Xbox and Play Stations, to VR devices, and my favorite family company is still Nintendo.
My family has been a fan of Nintendo since the days of the Wii and DSi. I remember the joy on my kids’ faces when they opened their presents to find the 3DS, which still is being used in our house for road trips and for games that can only be found on that device.
When Nintendo came out with the Switch, my family knew we needed to try it! Our first thought was that it was a Wii + a DS which we could easily get behind. I have had the pleasure of being able to try out new games by Nintendo when they are released, and even got to play Nintendo Switch Sports with Jessica Alba when it was first released! An experience I will never forget.
This summer, Nintendo reached out with 4 new games that they offered me a chance to try and of course I said Yes! Let’s check them out and see what my kids and I think of them!

Ok, I must admit, I am VERY impressed with Super Mario Bros. Wonder! I have been longing for a game like New Super Mario Bros. since getting a Nintendo switch and here it is! With lovable fan favorites like Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, and Toad, this game offers a player for everyone. And yes, Yoshi is also included but is recommended for beginners as they don’t take any damage.
Diving into the game, we have so many new abilities such as being able to be turned into an elephant! A fairly new concept of badges is also included to help add customization to powerups used in the game.
My favorite part of this game has to be the music! There are so many ways that the music is featured and it is nostalgic and new at the same time. Nintendo also offers an option for online multiplayer play, which is perfect for our family!
Some of my favorite Nintendo games are the Mario Bros. games featuring wacky animations. Reminiscent of other Mario games, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door delivers a unique and engaging story that is sure to have any Mario fan hooked!
With unique abilities and moves ranging from attacks to being able to fold yourself into a paper airplane, this game delivers a whole new control system to learn, and we love it! And oh yeah, it’s a remake from 2 decades ago! We love a classic, especially with revamped audio and visual art!
Get ready for one of the most unique games you have ever seen from the Mario Bros. franchise. Princess Peach: Showtime is a solo game centered around Princess Peach and her mission to help the Theets take back the stage. New characters such as Stella and Grape are introduced and play a vital role in the progression of the game.
My favorite thing about this game has to be that it is all about Princess Peach. We don’t get many storylines with her and it is so much fun to see a glimpse into what her life looks like and to see her be the hero, rather than the one being saved!
For those of you who have been around since the days of the 3DS, this title might be a little familiar to you. Luigi’s Mansion 2 was originally released on the 3DS and has been upgraded for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo has added new graphics, better music quality, and so much more to make sure that this remake both lives up to the hype, and delivers a new experience for past Nintendo fans.
My favorite aspect of Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD would have to be the Puzzles! I also really enjoyed that Luigi is put out front in this game as, let's face it, he usually plays side kick to Mario. Another great feature of the game is that there is an online multiplayer option for up to 4 people, so you can play with the entire family!
