Dungeon Drop

If you don’t already know, my family LOVES board games! We love everything from a relaxed game of Ticket to Ride, to a cut throat competition in Wonderland's War, and we are always on the hunt for games with a new mechanic! We recently came across Dungeon Drop and immediately knew that we had to try it out! Lucky for us Phase Shift Games was nice enough to send over their Dungeon Drop Collection for us to try out!

Dungeon Drop

Dungeon drop is a dungeon themed game where you literally drop the dungeon cubes onto your table and start the exploration from there. In the beginning of the game, you are dealt a random race and class card as well as a quest card that will determine how your gems are scored.

Each turn you will be dropping new cubes into play and acting accordingly. The main mechanic for turns revolves around forming rooms. You form these rooms by selecting 3 gray pillar cubes and collect all of the cubes within the pillars. I really enjoy this concept as you are having to balance the amount of loot within a room, as well as the damage you would take from the monsters between the pillars.

There is also a solo mode included in the game that adds new rules like a staircase cube that allows you to move on to new levels!

Now if you know my family, you know we love a good expansion… and dungeon drop has a pretty sizable amount of expansions and promos.

Starting off strong with Dropped Too Deep, this expansion brings in a plethora of new cards such as races, classes, quests, and group goals for when playing in Fearless Fellowship Mode. Inside the box, you can also find new armor cubes, molten shields, forbidden pillars, and arguably the cutest upgrade to the base game which are the new huge monster cubes that are just too cute to be afraid of! Next up is the Wizards and Spells expansion which adds a bit more competition as well as a 1 vs. many mode that is sure to captivate the table. There are also a ton of stellar promos like Skeleton Skulls and Gelatinous Cubes that work to make the game even more enjoyable! Lastly, we were also able to check out Tavern Tales which is Phase Shift Games’ standalone trick taking game set in the world of Dungeon Drop.

I will note that the Dungeon Mats and Dungeon Walls are sold separately, and work wonders to elevate the table presence of the game!

The thing I love most about Dungeon Drop is the replayability! With so many expansions, and the fact that every drop is bound to be different, no two games will ever be the same! I have also not seen another publisher with the same, or even similar, mechanics as Dungeon Drop and in a world with so many games, it is always impressive when a game can stand out like this one does!

Thank you so much to Phase Shift Games for sending a care package our way, and make sure to check out Dungeon Drop!
