Protect Your Personal Information

In this completely digital world that we live in, identity theft is something that we all have to worry about. If you have ever been the victim of identity theft then you know what a complete nightmare it can be. The hassle seems to be never ending as you struggle to let everyone know what has happened and you have to keep pretty meticulous records of everything.

Did you know that there are ways that you can protect yourself against identity theft? My husband and I did this several years ago. We haven’t had any issues since then.

Here are a few things that you can protect yourself against identity theft

1. Get Tax Identity Shield from Block Advisors

Block Advisors Tax Identity Shield offers a pre-tax season scan to provide awareness of tax identity theft risk. You will also get customized advice and year round tips and education on how to reduce the risk.

Block Advisors will offer a proactive defense to help protect future tax returns from being stolen plus early detection of any fraudulent returns submitted through Block Advisors with a notification to a secure email address.

You will appreciate their expert guidance and support with their restoration services, in the event of tax identity theft.

2. Check your credit report on a regular basis.

You should always be monitoring your credit report and there are several free services that will help you keep track of how you are doing financially.

3. Watch how much you share online.

Did you know that thieves troll social media sites looking for someone to rob? Those oversharers can easily become targets for thieves who know that their houses might be empty.

4. Monitor your bank accounts and credit cards monthly.

Several years ago my husband’s credit card got cloned when he went to a local gas station. We had no idea until I was checking our statement and I found a lot of little charges. We got everything straightened but had we not been checking, there would have most likely been a lot more charges.

5. Create strong passwords and protect your electronics.

People sometimes it make it much easier on hackers by having such simple passwords that almost anyone can break into their accounts. Do not do this. Make certain to keep your electronics protected from unsecured wifi.

6. Keep track of your financial documents or shred them so no one else can.

My first apartment had some huge dumpsters for all of the residents for garbage. I was constantly surprised at how many people just tossed financial information in the garbage. You can get any of their information just like it was laying around their house. We shred everything these days.
