Lemon Blueberry Thumbprint Cookies
Lemon Blueberry Thumbprint Cookies Cookies are one of my all time favorites and I love making them whenever I can. We make a lot of cookie gifts and are always on the lookout for...
Last weekend we had a last minute opportunity to head out of town to visit with old friends that we hadn't seen in a while. We were meeting at a home on the lake for the weekend where the kids would play together and the adults would hang out with food and wine. We were in charge of picking the wine and cooking dinner. We decided on Dover Sole because the local market had it in stock and it is a nice, mild white fish. We paired the fish with Villa Maria’s Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc which is crisp and fruity. We used the same wine in a butter sauce to finish the dish. I like approaching cooking in this way. We hope that you love this Pan Fried Dover Sole with Dill Beurre Blanc Recipe.
For years, we share our best advice on pairing wine and food. Don't overthink it. There is a tendency to feel like we have to follow the “rules” when it comes to wine when really you should follow your palate. What types of wine do you enjoy? Decide on a protein and allow that to guide your wine choice. Pick your wine and use that wine in a sauce complimenting the protein. Approaching a meal in this way ties everything together and enhances the flavors.
So with that decided, we went to lake and had a fantastic time. We caught up with old friends. We went boating. Fishing. Tubing. The kids all played in the water and the adults caught up on life. In short, we had a day that made for some very nice memories. And as evening approached, the adults enjoyed a glass of wine.
There is something about sharing a glass of wine with your friends as you watch the sun set over the lake. Talk about the perfect ending to an afternoon. And as the sun set, we prepared the Dover Sole. It was delicious. I actually heard one of the kids whisper “this is the best fish I’ve ever had”. The Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc paired wonderfully, and made a fantastic sauce to boot. It was a perfect ending to what had been a perfect day.
We were thrilled to partner with Villa Maria Wines because, as foodies, we love our wine just as much as we love our food and we have long had a love affair with New Zealand wines. You could say that we are passionate about what brings our family together: food and wine. We gather, enjoy our food and wine and fall in love with each other's company all over again. What we drink is important and we take pride in picking delicious wines that almost everyone will enjoy. You can't go wrong with Villa Maria Wines.
Villa Maria is a company founded on passion. This award winning winery features unique, fruit driven wines that New Zealand is known for and highlights the best of the distinct wine regions in the country. The winemakers source their grapes from premium grape growing regions like Hawkes Bay and Marlborough. Sir Georgia Fistonich started this family owned winery in 1961 and all wines are produced in state-of-the-art winemaking facilities in Auckland and Marlborough. In 2017, Drinks International named Villa Maria the most admired wine brand in New Zealand and the fourth most admired in the world.
