I have never met a cupcake I didn't like. In fact, I pretty much love everything about cupcakes. Even more so when it's a delicious devils food cupcake recipe like this one (although I do love my strawberry cupcakes). Life Pro Tip: Any time you can have double the chocolate, you should always say yes and ask questions later especially when it comes to these chocolate cupcakes dutch process cocoa. Ooey Gooey Chocolate Cupcakes 

Ingredients for tunnel of fudge cupcakes

  • 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour (can sub with all-purpose flour)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 stick butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup buttermilk (milk + 1 tsp vinegar)
  • 3 tbsp dutch process cocoa powder, unsweetened
  • ½ cup melted chocolate chips
  • 2 cups chocolate chips

Ingredients for Frosting

  • 2 sticks butter, softened to room temperature
  • 3 tbsp dutch process cocoa powder, unsweetened
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Line muffin pan with liners.
  3. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  4. Cream the butter and sugar. Add 1 egg in at a time until thoroughly mixed.
  5. Add vanilla extract, buttermilk cocoa powder, and melted chocolate chips. Slowly add wet and dry ingredients.
  6. Fill liners with mixture and then some chocolate chips and more mixture on top and bake for 25 minutes. Less time will be needed if using all-purpose flour (probably 17-20 minutes, depending on oven).
  7. After the cupcakes have cooled, mix together the frosting ingredients.
  8. Frost the cupcakes.
  9. Garnish with chocolate sprinkles.
