Megamind – A Superhero Movie With a Mind of Its Own – Opens Friday!
We had the chance to see an advanced screening of MegaMind last weekend. We absolutely loved it!! My kids were enthralled from the moment that we sat down and I have to admit, I...
My family loves a good game night, especially when we’re playing a collector edition of one of our favorite games! Recently we got the chance to try out a few games from Tabletop Tycoon including Everdell, Nemo’s War, and so many more! Let's get to the table and check them out!
One of my family’s current favorites is Everdell! It is truly in our top ten most-played games! With so many expansions available, there is so much gameplay to unlock. Everdell is an adorable game set in a woodland world joined by critters that are simply too cute! The collector's edition makes a great game even better with upgraded resources, new meeples, an upgraded die, and even extra cards!
The art is one of our favorite aspects of Everdell! It is so adorable I just want to join the community I am building halfway through the game. The immersion aspect is unmatched and makes for a great game night with the entire family!
From the world of Everdell, comes a new sister game, Farshore. Everdell Farshore has similar base actions and mechanics as the classic while adding in new concepts and an entirely new setting… the coast! One of my favorite things about Farshore is the new resources to play with, as well as the lighthouse.
The collector’s edition brings together the base game with exclusive cards and deluxe tokens. It’s familiar yet refreshingly original, packing just enough innovation to keep tried-and-true Everdell players coming back for more.
One thing my family has found over the past few months is that we really enjoy a good co-op board game. While competition is always fun, being on the same team can help keep the mood light and less competitive. Maximum Apocalypse is a stand-out co-op game for its theme, charm, and mechanics.
The Legendary Edition goes above and beyond with the included miniatures. I’m all for a simple game, but minis make a game so much more thematic for me. The tension in this game is perfect for a good fright, and a strategic game night. If you love survival games with a heavy dose of unpredictability, look no further.
If you’re a fan of Maximum Apocalypse and looking for more adventures, check out Maximum Apocalypse: Wasted Wilds.
Wasted Wilds is a stand alone expansion that adds 5 new players to the game, as well as 2 completely new campaigns. Something to keep in mind is if you add the Wasted Wilds expansion to the base game, you can now play with up to 6 players! With new features, and story lines to unlock, Wasted Wilds is a must have for any fans of Maximum Apocalypse.
My son loves solo games. He has recently gotten me into the world of solo games, which I too am growing to love as I see them as a giant puzzle for me to work my way through. In Nemo’s War, you will be commanding The Nautilus and venturing the seas. While the game is known as a really good solo game (one of the best of 2024) you can also play co-op or competitively.
The Ultimate Edition includes deluxe components, refined gameplay mechanics, and every expansion on the market at the time of publication. Be prepared to weigh every choice you make as if the consequences for one wrong step are dire. Nemo’s war is a unique game that you won’t regret adding to your collection.
Up last, is Seas of Havoc. In this naval combat game, you will be using a deck of cards to control your movements through the sea. My family enjoys the gameplay mechanics of Seas of Havoc as it is a fun mix between deck building and tactical play.
The Captain’s Deluxe Edition includes adorable ship miniatures, premium player boards, deluxe coins, and both expansions. The Buried Treasure Expansion adds a new layer of depth to the game, providing wooden treasure chests, and making the game more thematic and immersive.
Archmage is a unique board game combining resource management, area control, and exploration all in one box. With an underlying theme of magic and spell casting, Archmage made our list for its thematic presence as well as the gameplay it offers. The Game centers around the idea of upgrading various spells and defeating other Mage Apprentices. I won’t lie, there is a lot going on with this game, but once you learn how to play it, its hard to put down.
The Archmage Collector’s Edition features unique wooden components, cloth bags, and best of all… a score pad! All of these features help add to the theme and table presence of the game.
We love a good co-op game and Set A Watch ticks so many boxes for us! In Set A Watch, you will work together to protect your camp and keep watch, defeating a line of creatures along the way. Dice rolling is one of the main aspects of the game, which my family really enjoys!
The Set a watch bundle consists of The Set A Watch base game, Swords of the Coin, Forsaken Isles, Doomed Run, and Outriders. My favorite aspect of this bundle would have to be the fact that all of the games listed above, fit into the Doomed Run box. With a collection of over 450 games, our shelf space is limited, and being able to condense 5 games into one box, is a HUGE positive!
A War of Whispers is an area control game like no other. Rather than playing as one of the five empires, players will take on the role of a secret society, always working in the shadows. The game takes a high level of strategy as the next move needed to succeed is not always clear.
I have to admit, I am usually not a huge fan of games that are purely area control, but A War of Whispers expands on this idea, and goes deeper into a game that is unique to the Tabletop Tycoon catalog.
– I really enjoy the game’s take on the classic concept of area control, making it so much more than a game of risk.
– The idea of working as a secret society is exciting, and really fun if you start playing the role of one.
The deluxe tokens in the collectors edition truly make the game for me. Being able to visualize where each of your banners are helps to bring the game to life.
The game has a really high level of player interaction, which is fun for our family on occasion. We have some people in the family that play a little hard but this is a great game for a night we’re feeling especially competitive.
In A War of Whispers you need to focus on your fellow players and their strategy just as much as you focus on your own. Your plan going into the game, will most likely not be the same by the time it’s over.
In Alien Frontiers, players will be developing planets and managing resources in hopes of being in control of the newly discovered world.
Alien Frontier Edition X includes the base game, Factions, Agendas, Outer Belt, and more amazing expansion content!
– I love how reliant the game is on dice. Something about the level of chance and strategy keeps me coming back for more.
– The resource management aspect is a real treat!
I absolutely love the addition of factions into the game! Asymmetric play is something that, I believe, adds so much replayability to the game since your end goal or abilities will most likely be different when switching between factions.
I really enjoy the detail that went into the creation of this game. From the faction boards to the Colony Domes, every detail works to make this game’s table presence simply amazing.
In Merchants of Magick: A Set a Watch Tale, players will roll 4 beautiful dice and select two of them to use in the round. These dice will help players research and craft, or stock items and potions that will let them change the outcomes of the dice. Definitely a defense vs offense approach and I am here for it!
Throughout the course of the game you will be tasked with fulfilling order cards. Like any shop… you aren’t going to want to keep your customers waiting!
– Roll and Writes are always a joy. The randomness of the dice outcomes make it hard to have a strategy consistently through the game.
– Having the background of taking place in the Set a Watch world helps add to the story of the game.
After recently getting introduced to the world of Set a Watch, and absolutely loving it, I knew Merchants of Magick was a must try! I have tried a fair amount of roll and write games over the years and have genuinely enjoyed each and everyone of them, Merchants of Magick being no exception.
Have you ever dreamed of being a lawyer, defending justice, and making sure you win when fighting the law? If so, lawyer up should be on your radar. In lawyer up you’ll be calling witnesses to the stand and providing evidence in an attempt to get the jury on your side.
Lawyer up truly makes you feel like you are sitting in a courtroom giving your all to defend your side of the case. A quick thing to note is there are currently two games/seasons of lawyer up to choose from, with different cases available between the two.
From the adorable forests of Everdell to the post-apocalyptic world of Maximum Apocalypse, Tabletop Tycoon knows how to produce an amazing game! Each of these deluxe editions adds a new twist or thematic level to the games we already know and love.
If I had to choose one favorite, which would be really hard to do, I would have to go with Everdell Collector’s Edition. I have been obsessed with Everdell for the past few months and have loved every game I have tried in the collection! Thank you so much Tabletop Tycoon for providing these games for us to try out and share our thoughts about! Let the games begin!
