Hygge is a wonderful practice that can be done any time of the year, though people often focus on it in the fall and winter months when the weather is cooler, it is darker outside, and the need for comfort and coziness becomes a priority.
The Hygge manifesto (aka hooga home) is something that millions of people around the world have adapted as their way of living and is somewhat similar to Marie Kondo's Tips for Sparking Joy.
The Hygge definition or Hygge meaning can vary from person to person. You should know how to live a Hygge lifestyle and how to build Hygge habits. We hope that you enjoy this Hygge the Danish Art of Happiness post.
Define Hygge: The Danish lifestyle Hygge (aka Danish hooga or Danish huga) is about happiness and minimalism. Making your life better with Hygge habits.
The Danish practice of Hygge (aka hooga culture or Hygge Danish meaning) consists of winding down, getting cozy and comfortable, and indulging in relaxation (check out the dictionary Hygge definition below).
There are many ways to practice Hygge, and all of them can bring you peace during your time of reset.
First things first. If you are going to read this post, I want you to have the pronunciation of the Scandinavian word Hygge right in your head because it's kind of fun to say out loud in a caveman voice.
Have you asked yourself how do you pronounce Hygge? Or how is Hygge pronounced in Danish? Or even how to pronounce Hygge? According to a video from Visit Denmark's website, Hygge is pronounced “hue-gah” or “hoo-guh.”
An easy way to start practicing Hygge is to bring nature back into your home. Instead of using fake plastic plants, consider getting some live plants. It does take more time and attention to care for them, but it can help you connect with nature and even improve the oxygen in your home.
Try these succulents that always look amazing and are easy to care for. No green thumb is needed! The peace plant is a wonderful indoor plant that can also help purify the air in your home.
Another option is to start getting fresh flowers every weekend when you go to the supermarket or farmer’s market. It allows you to create a more homey environment, which is wonderful for your Hygge habits.
Hygge meaning is all about comfort and relaxation, so try to use more soft and cozy materials. The Danish practice of Hygge is both on your person and in your home. Hygge definition means soft materials that you want in your living space.
Get some soft blankets to put on your bed and sofa, have plush carpets in areas of your home where you have cold tile or hardwood flooring, and put lots of pillows on your bed. This plush faux fur blanket will keep you wrapped in warmth when the temperatures dip.
Get thick, warm sweaters to wear indoors, and fuzzy socks or slippers. Slide into these fuzzy slippers to pamper your feet.
Ambiance is also a big part of hygge habits, including using candles, dimming the lighting in your home, and using your fireplace on cold evenings. This is one of the reasons why people practice hygge more in the fall or winter months, as opposed to the summer.
A big part of ambiance is not only controlling the lighting in your home but making it warmer as well.
LED pillar candles are a safe way to add coziness to your home.
These flameless realistic LED candles with remote control have a flickering flame for a realistic touch. If you don't have access to a fireplace, this freestanding fireplace heater is a modern substitute.
Think of some activities that are soothing and relaxing. What do you typically do when you want to unwind? This is going to be unique to you. This might be curling up with a good book and cup of tea in the evenings, or working on an art project during the weekend.
The activities should be soothing and calm your mind as you do them.
