Has a friend or a family member (especially kids) ever asked you, “If you had a superpower what would it be?” The easy answer is to just rattle off the powers of your favorite super hero…you know…to be able to fly, to have super-human strength, to be invisible, the usual stuff.
But, what if your super power was the ability to breathe underwater? How cool would that be? A super power that would allow you to visit a new world under the sea. To see things you’ve never seen before. To go on an adventure that is never the same thing twice.
They have a term for it, it’s called…wait for it…wait for it…SCUBA DIVING! That’s right, a ‘super power’ that is super easy to learn from a PADI-certified scuba diving instructor. PADI is the Professional Association of Diving Instructors.

If you want to try scuba diving, but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, you might want to try The PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience.
Discover Scuba Diving is a one-day program for people who have no experience with scuba diving, but want an introduction to the world under the sea. It’s not a scuba certification course, it’s just that first peek, that first adventure, that moment that ignites your curiosity, takes over your senses, and just totally blows you away!
The Discover Scuba Diving experience will include an Open Water Dive briefing (that’s where you learn about the equipment you will use to breathe underwater, safety guidelines, and other tips that will help make your experience truly incredible), and an Open Water Dive, from a beach or from a dive boat (that’s where you’ll actually scuba dive in the ocean or a nearby lake, depending upon where you live…or your travel destination). Your PADI instructor may also provide you with a credit that may be put toward your PADI Open Water Diver course.
My Scuba Experience
I was excited to get into the water for a lesson on how to scuba dive. This is something that I have been wanting to do for years and a strange accident right before our honeymoon left me unable to scuba dive. We made plans to go diving later this year so this was the perfect opportunity to test the waters. Like that pun? 😉
First we were introduced to all of the equipment and we learned what everything was for plus how to properly put it on. Then we learned how to do checks on our equipment. All of this was before we even got into the water.
Next it was off into the water for more instruction. I felt completely comfortable and safe with the instructors. I also felt like I could ask any questions. I really enjoyed my diving experience and cannot wait to get more dives in this year!
To sign up for a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience, at a PADI dive facility near you (or at some exotic travel destination…which would be awesome), you can use the online PADI Dive Shop Locator.

Looks like such a fun experience, I have debated if I would ever scuba dive, a little afraid of water to do it I think. BUT this makes me want to overcome that fear and just do it!
This sounds like a really fun way to learn more about scuba diving and experience it. I think it sounds fun so I’d like to be able to try out a one day experience.
I think this is something I would love to do. I love swimming and the ocean, and I would love to be able to go on dives and see amazing things under water.
I lived in Fl for more years than I can remember and scuba was always a huge thing people did. I’ve always been scared myself lol. It does look fun though!
My hubby and I have been wanting to do this for some time. I wonder if we can get the training done before we go on our cruise next year. It would be so much fun to learn!
My youngest son can breathe under water! hehe He’s traveled the world doing so including spending a week on a boat at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. He loves it and I love it for him but … I worry that my claustrophobia might get the best of me while scuba diving. Hmmmm…..
You know, I have always wondered how to get started. My Hubby goes all the time when we are on vacation, but I have never been because I am a bit scared and timid
