5 Ways to Build the Perfect Hotdog
A few weeks ago some friends and I went to a local hot dog restaurant to try it out. We had a long discussion about hot dogs and the appeal that they hold. All three of us agreed that when we eat a hot dog, it needs to be a great one. Then the discussion turned into what makes a great hot dog or what exactly is the perfect hot dog. For me, a great hotdog is about a few things. The perfect hotdog is a combination of the dog and the toppings. The hot dog itself has to be delicious or the toppings won't matter and the same goes for the toppings. The toppings complete the hot dog experience elevating the taste of whatever you choose to put on top. If the toppings aren't great, you most likely won't enjoy the hot dog either.
There is no better time to enjoy that hotdog than when tailgating. A recent survey showed that 3 out of 4 Americans believe hotdogs are an essential part of tailgating. Well of course. If there had to be an official food for tailgating, I am certain that it would be a hot dog. Here are 5 Ways to Build the Perfect Hotdog.
5 Ways to Build the Perfect Hotdog
Start with a good hotdog.
This may seem like a no-brainer but even the best topping cannot make an inferior hotdog taste good. Did you know that you can get Nathan's Famous premium all-beef Hot Dogs at all RaceTrac locations on the roller grill? That's right. Make certain that your hotdog is all beef. No unidentifiable parts in our hotdogs, please!
It's all about the toppings.
At Racetrac, with their unlimited toppings bar, the possibilities are endless. Good toppings mean an even better hotdog.
Try something new.
Are you a fan of peppers? Put them on your hotdog and give it a try. How about cole slaw? I had never considered putting in a hotdog until a few weeks ago and now it is one of my favorite hotdog toppings.
Go half & half.
Have you ever considered grabbing more than one hotdog? Even better go half & half with your favorite toppings. I made a slaw dog on one side and then added my old standby (ketchup, mustard & relish) to the other half. This is a fabulous way to eat hotdogs, by the way.

Yummy! You have me craving one now! My husband always outs onions, tomato, pickles, sport peppers, ketchup, and celery salt on his hot dogs. I am a saurkraut girl but I am from NJ, he is from Chicago.
I’ve never been to a RaceTrac but it sounds like a neat place. The Dogtoberfest looks like a cool event. I love toppings and being able to customize things.
I love that there are so many ways to make hot dogs. You can add so many things to them to make them all taste different and delicious. My youngest is a huge hot dog fan.
Awesome deal! I love mine with chili and cheese sauce. Or I can also have it with lots of onions, pickle relish and mustard. OMG. I am craving for one at this hour! Have to visit a RaceTrac tomorrow.
Yum! It’s not a complete dog for me though unless it has sauerkraut on it. (That’s the German genes coming out lol). I do like your idea about a half and half though.
Dogtoberfest sounds amazing! I would love to try the Guinness Beer brat. That sounds so incredible for our tailgating parties. I have to get to RaceTrac.
Yum! Hotdogs are a tailgating staple, that’s for sure! I love mine with lots of cheese sauce and onions. Or I could just go plain with mustard and ketchup!
Now you made me all hungry! I don’t think there is a bad topping to put on top of a hotdog. My favorite is really just plain catchup mustard and tomatoes. My husband puts on a form of oil and tomato kind of like what you put on top of a bruschetta. It is really good.
The toppings do make the hot dog when it comes to them. I saw these and it made me think of putting mac and cheese on a hot dog. Anyway, I am all for pickles and spears but just not sweet pickles on my hot dogs.

We don’t have Racetracks around here, but I am all about hot dogs. My perfect hot dog has mustard, relish and onions.
I love Racetrac dogs. They are so juicy and delicious. We always stop there for dogs if we’re on the go and getting hungry.
AHHH! This is so nostalgic for me. I am going to have to give these a try. Yummy!
My husband and son would love these ideas, they love hotdog in a bun. I’ll dress it up like this the next time I make it for them.

I haven’t had a hotdog from RaceTrac yet. It looks so good though. I will have to eat a hotdog next time I am out running around during lunchtime.
Half and half is a good idea. I love a good hotdog but if it’s prepared wrong, it can put a damper on things!
Stopping by Racetrac for a quick hotdog and a drink is such a good idea. It’s always fun to try some new topping combos!
There is just something about the way the hot dogs cook on those machines. They taste so darn good! I love to pile mine with onions and relish!
