9 Tips for Talking to a Girl about Her Period
9 Tips for Talking to a Girl about Her First Period As a new mother of a baby girl, it never occurred to me that one day I would be teaching another human being...
There was a moment in my life many years ago when I knew that our lives were going to change. I had been married a few years and we had talked about having a family but we decided to put it off for a little longer. I think that our exact discussion was another year or two. However, we weren't really that great about taking all of the precautions that we should have taken, if you know what I mean.
For a few weeks I wasn't feeling that great. I was tired. A little irritable and honestly I just felt a little off. We went to my favorite place to eat dinner and we both ordered our usual. They happened to also make amazing craft beer. My husband was pouring our beers from the pitcher when our appetizer was delivered. I took one look at it and honestly thought that I was going to throw up. This was the seared Ahi Tuna that was one of my favorite things ever but one look at it and I was sick to my stomach. I knew. I said to my husband, “I think that I am pregnant.” After we sat there for a few minutes to stunned silence, we both said at the same time, “Pregnancy test!”
We finished dinner and headed to the drug store to buy a Clearblue pregnancy test and then headed home to find out the results. After just a few short minutes, my hunch was confirmed and our lives changed. I was shocked, elated, scared, overwhelmed and unbelievably happy. So was my husband. We sat there on the bed for a few minutes to kind of let it sink in. Once I saw that word positive, I knew that our lives would never be the same and I realized that we were ready to be parents. I wanted to be a mother. My husband was excited to become a father.
Then we figured out how we wanted to tell our parents. We put the pregnancy test on the counter and invited our parents over for dinner. My mother saw it as soon as she walked in the house. My parents were thrilled for us and we then began to tell everyone! We were met with an overwhelmingly positive reaction from everyone.
Look at these beautiful faces. Being a mother is the hardest thing that I have ever done. It is also the most rewarding. The thing that makes my life complete and something that I wouldn't give up for anything. My husband and I face challenges every single day as parents but never once would we change a thing.
