Wet Ones
We love Wet Ones in this house. We use them all of the time. My husband and I both carry them in our cars at all times. They have so many uses and are...

Allergy season is no fun—the sneezes, the runny noses, red & weepy eyes… this can be debilitating and embarrassing. While regular dusting and cleaning certainly helps reduce allergy symptoms, it is often cumbersome. Allergy season is always pretty tough on my family. Frankly, here in Georgia, allergy season can sometimes be allergy year.
There are times when my allergy troubles never seem to end. I have to be careful when I go outside, but we also have to take special care of the inside of our house. This means that we spend a lot of time cleaning. These days, we are pretty much fanatics about everything when it comes to cleaning. We clean our home on a daily basis and when it comes to cleaning to fight allergies, we’ve found these five tips to be really helpful.
1. Vacuum your floors often.
If you can get rid of carpet, do it. But that is not always an option so we vacuum at least every other day during allergy season. Every time we have removed carpet from a room, I am always surprised at how much the carpet holds in it. Things like pollen, dust, pet dander and more can trigger allergies but these things are constantly in your carpet.
2. Clean furniture and draperies.
Did you know that pollen and other allergens like dust can stick to your furniture and curtains and blinds? I didn't either. Every spring and fall we remove all of the curtains and throw rugs around our home. We wash the curtains, beat the throw rugs and get our carpets cleaned by a professional. We also carpet clean various rooms throughout the year depending on need.
3. Clean your plants and windows.
Did you know that mold can live in your plants and the corners of window sills? I never knew until I read an article a few years ago. We moved the plants to one place in the kitchen. We clean the windows and blinds very often to remove any lasting debris that might aggravate my allergies.
4. Keep your pets in check.
Our pets get a bath twice a week because they are outside a lot. They love to run through bushes, flowers and play around wherever they can which means that there are always things in their fur. Constant grooming and maintenance keeps our pet as allergy free as possible.
5. Dust frequently.
We dust with CloroxⓇ Triple Action Dust Wipes. They are bleach-free dry dust wipes with interlocking weave traps that locks debris instead of pushing it around. These wipes grab and hold onto dust, hair and allergens like pet dander, dust mites and pest matter. One single, two sided wipe can dust an entire room!
Following these tips during allergy season could help you help your family stay allergy free.

This is a great post especially for me, because at our base, everyone seems to be getting these horribly allergies. I don’t know if it’s the weather or what changed but for the first time in 4 years, so am I! I need to use your habit of bathing my dogs 2 a week instead of once. I honestly thought it would make their skin more dry. Thank you so much for sharing!
I noticed some mold in one of my plants last week. When I was spring cleaning, I seen mold between the storm glad on my windows
My son has sever allergies. This is such a great check list! I am going to go check window seals and pull down curtains to wash!
I’m going to look for these! They look really convenient! I vacuum almost every day since we’ve got 3 cats and a dog! The fur flies everywhere as they run through the house. Thanks for all the tips.
I need all the help I can get. I have wicked bad allergies and need to figure out a way to keep them at bay!
Allergies are rough this time of year for me! These are great tips for helping to keep the home allergen free. I think the hard part is with the pets and the dander from the cats this time of year.
Awesome tips, I am a massive clean freak and make sure everything is spotless! I can’t stand dust.
Oh I love your list! It is so helpful, specially to someone like me who has year-round allergies. I guess the only place I don’t sneeze is when I visit Seattle or the states in the East coast! Haha! One of the things I would add there is a humidifier if you live in a dry climate. I think moisture in the air helps too 🙂
These are really great tips. I know if I don’t vacuum every day we are all miserable with allergies. You don’t always realize that along with pet hair and dust you also track in things like pollen and bring them into your home. If you have allergies like we do, they wreak havoc!
This year has been the absolute worse I can remember for allergies. My husband and I both have had more problems than I can remember. We remodeled our home last summer and replaced all of the carpet with laminate flooring. It helps to not have carpet, especially since we have 2 cats. One of my regular chores is pet hair removal.
I seem to have developed allergies in the last few years so anything I can do to help that I will! These are some great ways to help!
Allergies are my worst enemy! I have asthma, so allergies on top of that really makes for an unfriendly atmosphere for my lungs. I do try to follow all these steps as much as I can!
Ugh, I just hate allergy season, let alone allergies to dust. Since I have two little boys and no time for cleaning, not much dusting happens here. Thank goodness I just gave in and hired a cleaning lady!
Thanks for the great tips! We have a lot of allergy sufferers in my house! I needed this!
I’m going to need to do all of this soon. There’s not many trees to block the airborne allergens in my area.
I’m always looking for ways to keep my home allergy free. It certainly is that time of the year. These are all great ways to keep allergies at bay.
I love these tips! Both my husband and son are allergic to dust mites so I am constantly cleaning to make sure they aren’t exposed too much to the mites. The dust wipes look like they would be perfect for quick clean ups!
I need these wipes in my life! Our “pool room” as we call it gets so freaking dusty it’s insane. I swear it feels like every time I walk by the piano or the dresser that holds all of our pool table supplies they are covered in dust. We have horrible allergies too so that makes it even worse.
I’m thinking that I’m a person with allergies. Because for the last few years and only during spring I get sick (itchy, watery eyes, sneezing, coughing … the works) even with my flu shot. These are some reminders and good tips for everyone to follow!
We all suffer with allergies. I will have to try all of these tips and see if they give us some relief.
I love using Clorox products. Specially the bleach. Nothing gets whites any whiter.
When I was little, I was allergic to dust so my mom really had to make sure that the house is clean and free from dusty substances. Somehow, it’s very tiring to clean the curtains and the blinds every day so it’s a good idea to hire a helper in the house to save time and effort. She also cleans the plants and takes out weeds regularly.
These are great ideas. My friends in the south use to wash their walls with bleach water to keep their houses allergy free. Not sure if it worked but their houses were always so clean.
Fantastic post and tips – allergies seem to be on the increase all of the time and they are just so debilitating for some people! I eventually got rid of my curtains because I had such awful asthma at night.
Oh we have to be so careful and diligent in cleaning here at home because my other half suffers from terrible dust allergies. When we hoover the carpet we give it a really good deep clean and use vacuum in mousses on it, etc. We always dust, especially in the bedrooms and living room as those are the most used rooms.
All the things I hate doing. 🙂 I definitely need to dust more and really clean up the house better. We have terrible allergies.
All great advice, however I think I should excuse myself from all the cleaning because initially it pushes it all in the air! This is a great check list for the hubby!
Thanks for the tips. I suffer from season allergies (fall and spring) and never thought to have the curtains cleaned due to clinging allergens! I clean my spaces often during allergy season (even the office) and find that it is very helpful! I also increase take mega doses of Vitamin C to help my immune system – it’s one of the few vitamins that you can overdose without risk of toxins.
We have to dust all of the time here. If I don’t do it every day or every other day, it’ll take over.
We don’t have pets so I do all of those except for the “clean your plants”. I must admit, I certainly haven’t thought of it. Thanks for the tip. I will do it ASAP. 🙂
We dust often because we have two dogs that cintribute to the dust. Vacuuming the floor is also done often because of the dogs shedding.. Thanks for the tips.
This is a really great list. It seems no matter how hard I clean some of us still sneeze because of allergies. I will have to try these other tips.
These are all awesome tips for keeping dust and allergens out of our homes! I have year-round allergies to pretty much anything and everything under the sun and I can vouch for all of this tricks 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
Dusting is my nemesis! I need to vacuum every day with our dogs. It is never ending!
Omg these are some really great tips!!! It’s so strange, never had allergies as a kiddo, but now I do lol… I will have to put some of these tips to use
I have so many allergies. This is a really great list to help keep those allergies at bay.
These are some great tips and reminders! We don’t have allergies in this home but it’s certainly important to keep things tidy along with the points on your list. Thanks!
Those are great tips to keep home clean and allergy free. I try to vacuum on a regular basis. I need to wash the curtains more often
We recently moved into a new home, that has been unoccupied for quite sometime. You can’t imagine the amount of dust, or how badly my daughters allergies have flared up. I am going to look for these Clorox Dust wipes. Thank you!
Great tips! Keeping a clean house is essential to staying allergy free. I am extremely diligent about cleaning and dusting regularly and I’m rarely affected by allergies.
My allergies thank you for posts like this! I’m so guilty of not vacuuming every week – I find myself so busy that it just gets put off! I’m absolutely picking up some of those dust wipes next time I go grocery shopping though. I hate finding dust, and it seems likes it’s always there!
Great tips. My wife and kids have allergies, so as soon as the toddlers are more steady on their feet, the carpet is going! Probably another year or so, then it’s gone.
I didn’t think about cleaning the plants or the windows! I do know that I should vacuum more often, though!
