Kalso Earth Day $1000 Community Grant

You may have seen my post several weeks ago submitting my ideas of what I would do with a $1000 grant for Earth from Kalso shoes (the makers of Earth Footwear):

My goal in applying for the project was for the Scouts (two of my kids are in Scouts and I am a Brownie leader) at the school my children attend would be able to complete a Scout service project in which they would plan an Earth Day project and then fully execute thier plans.

The kids will be assisting with the shopping, planting, cleaning and doing whatever we needs. The kids are ages 5-12 so this is the perfect thing for them to do.

I am thrilled to announce that my project was awarded one of the grants. The Scouts at the elementary school my children attend (my kids are doing it too) will be taking part in a project centered around:

• Garden: will we clean and replant the school gardens
• Beautification: we are planning to clean and maintain the school grounds.
• Recycled Crafts: we are going to build some benches for a few areas around the school from reclaimed wood.
• Tree Planting: we will be planting trees and other plants.

The school and the Scouts are just as excited. We cannot wait to complete our project and really make the school a more Earth friendly place.

During the next month, I am going to share my planning and preparation as we undertake this amazing and very fun project. Watch for my posts and my tweets as we solidify our plans to beautify the school and make it more Earth friendly.
