The History of Etherfields
As I mentioned, Awaken Realms is responsible for bringing Etherfields to life. Awaken Realms is known for its visually stunning games, as well as the level of detail that goes into the gameplay of each of them. You may have heard of Awaken Realms from their other projects such as Castles of Burgundy, This War of Mine, and many more! Etherfields originally launched in crowdfunding, quickly gaining traction in the board gaming community. While Awaken Realms is known for its unique board games, Etherfields was a new direction from their last releases.
Theme
Etherfields is set in a Dreamscape world, a surreal environment where players are tasked to navigate through dreams, each with their unique challenges and settings. Some players refer to the dreamscape as more of a Lucid Dreaming experience where you must work to decipher the nature of your surroundings and discover the story being told. On your adventure, you will find landscapes, characters, and layers of depth that go on for miles, which is great for replayability!
Mechanics
Etherfields is a CO-OP game for 1-4 players, with key mechanics similar to Deck Building, Narrative Choices, and Exploration.
Deck Building
You will work to manage a deck of action cards representing your abilities and resources. Throughout the game, you will acquire new cards, adding new abilities, and helping you to build a deck unique to you, as well as your goals in the game.
Narrative Choices
Since Etherfields is a story-driven game, you will be tasked to make decisions that will affect the outcome of the story, as well as the game as a whole. Again, this adds a new layer for replayability!
Exploration
As a player in Etherfields, you will have your fair share of explorations, be it in the dream world, or traversing puzzles you encounter along the way.

Now on to one of my favorite parts of any Awaken Realms game… THE COMPONENTS! Awaken Realms hit another home run with Etherfields and the art they included in the decks. The cards are beautiful and unique to Etherfields, which is a staple of every Awaken Realms game!
Another thing I love about Etherfields is the miniatures! They are adorable and really help to elevate the level of gameplay and the overall feel of the table. I have personally found that I find myself more focused and intrigued when games come with pieces such as miniatures.
Replayability
With the price tag attached to Etherfields, I know it’s important to know how much gameplay you will truly get from the game. Since there are so many paths to take and different outcomes to how the game will turn out, the amount of times you can replay this game and not get the same outcome, is almost infinite! Awaken Realms has done a great job of making no two games of Etherfields identical to the last!
Expansions
Y’all know I love a good expansion… And Etherfields delivers in that department!!! From specific expansions to Stretch Goals, Etherfields has many options for expansions for when you want to add a little bit of spice to your next game!
