Tummy Tuck & Mommy Makeover Experience

There’s no denying that the world we live in today is heavily influenced by social media and celebrities. It's become quite evident when female celebrities have babies; just a few months after giving birth, their bodies often appear as slim as they did before pregnancy. This phenomenon has led to a significant increase in the demand for mommy makeovers. We hope that this Tummy Tuck & Mommy Makeover Experience post inspires you.

If you’re not familiar with the term “mommy makeover”, let’s examine it. Despite what people may think or assume, these procedures do not turn new mothers into their pre-pregnancy selves. While the increase in mommy makeovers has increased, it should be noted that having surgery soon after giving birth can be dangerous. That’s why most reputable plastic surgeons will require you to wait at least six months once you’ve given birth to operate on you.

You’re probably wondering, then, why some celebrities seem to snap right back into shape shortly after giving birth to their own children. Well, they have different methods, such as employing personal trainers and nutritionists pre-birth, breastfeeding (which helps to burn calories), and working with their trainers and nutritionists post-birth to remain on track. However, mommy makeovers are still needed in some cases. Once you give birth, you will have excess skin, problems with your breasts and vagina, and other issues. That’s where mommy makeovers come in

What is a Mommy Makeover?

According to The Cleveland Clinic, “a Mommy Makeover is not a single procedure but a series of plastic surgeries performed together to address the physical changes caused by pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. The goal is to help women regain their pre-pregnancy body or achieve a more desired shape in a single operation, reducing overall recovery time compared to multiple separate surgeries.”

I consulted with two surgeons several times before my surgery. They had pictures and video from all angles to prepare a surgery plan and some suggestions that I asked for. Pricing was upfront and what we had discussed. Scheduling was concierge-like and unexpectedly delightful. She texted me updates and was really great when I had questions. The surgical team performed the following surgeries during the same operating period:

Atlanta Facial Plastic Surgery

  • Circumferential Tummy Tuck: This definitely was needed for optimal results, but I think it made my recovery time a little bit longer. I am thrilled with the results.
  • Buccal Fat Removal: They offered to do this for me. I wasn't considering it, but I LOVE it. Changed the shape of my face. No more chubby cheeks.
  • Breast Lift: Very much needed. The girls were nowhere close to where they needed to be. The downside is the anchor-shaped scars on the bottom half of your breasts. I use some very good products like the ScarAway silicone scar sheets. They work very well. I combine them with the gel.
  • Breast Augmentation: They used gummy bear implants to contour the look of each breast so they looked more natural, or at least closer to what I think looks more natural.
  • Liposuction: Lipo on my back, sides, and stomach. This left some crazy dark bruising and was uncomfortable. I would call it more of an achy feeling rather than painful.

Mom Makeovers Worth the Splurge

Plastic surgery varies for each woman, as no two bodies are alike. The healing times for these procedures can differ based on the specific surgeries performed. Even if your recovery time is shorter than that of others, it’s important to plan accordingly.

  • Rest & Recover – Take it easy post-surgery: You will need some extra help with daily chores such as dishes, cooking, watching over your children, and general cleaning duties. The recovery time for a mommy makeover is around 6 weeks.
  • Slim Down – You may need to lose some weight: Although the procedure does address some weight loss, it typically only removes around 2-5 pounds. If you want to lose additional weight, especially a significant amount, it's advisable to do so prior to the surgery. Losing excess weight can result in loose skin, which may require further surgical intervention to correct. To avoid the need for multiple surgeries, it's best to reach your desired weight before having your mommy makeover.
  • No Heavy Objects – Avoid lifting or carrying anything over 1-2 pounds, including kids: For a few weeks post-surgery, you’ll have to avoid picking up anything that is over 10 pounds. This limitation will last around 4 to 6 weeks, so that means no holding your kids until your recovery time is over. Ignoring this rule will put you at risk for internal bleeding.
  • Health and Nutrition Matter: Health and nutrition are essential before and after surgery. Considering your overall health and nutrition prior to the procedure will improve your recovery and outcomes.

  • Getting Through the First Week – It's not painful, but it's uncomfortable: Without a doubt, the first 3-5 days after surgery are the toughest. For me, getting through that first week and staying positive was really key to my recovery. You may experience fatigue, soreness, skin stretching, discomfort, pain, and even constipation. Don’t worry, though. Past the five days, it should be smooth sailing.
  • Post-Surgery Depression is Common- This is a true story: It's common to experience some feelings of depression after any surgery, especially those that leave you with limitations, restrictions, fatigue, and discomfort. This is often true for plastic surgery, where there are also additional concerns about adjusting to your new body. I experienced this myself. About 36 hours post-operation, I began to question my life choices. I worried I would never be able to poop again, I missed my kids, I felt very strange, and I even nicknamed myself “Franken-Stacie.” I had many doubts and thoughts racing through my mind. However, it's important to remember that these feelings will pass with time. I tried to meditate but ultimately found comfort in drinking hot tea and watching *Law & Order*. It was a very relaxing distraction.

TIP: It's tough to remember that a depressive episode will pass. Consider having a friend on speed dial or text ready when you really don't feel like yourself and just need some love, reassurances, trivia questions, whatever helps, let that person know you need them.

  • Don't Do it All at Once: While it’s common for mommy makeovers to tackle all problems at once, it’s okay to do it your own way and do one surgery at a time. Discuss your options and concerns with your surgeon and come up with a plan that works for you and your lifestyle. If I text a pink heart to a close friend, she knows to text me back over and over again until she hears from me. This helps me so much. I do it for others as well.

Tummy Tuck & Mommy Makeover Experience

Pregnancy can be physically challenging, as it involves carrying a baby for 9 months. This experience can lead to stress, depression, and significant feelings of insecurity, especially once the pregnancy is over. A mommy makeover can help you regain your pre-pregnancy body and restore your confidence. While this procedure can be beneficial, it is not suitable for everyone. If you are considering a mommy makeover, it’s essential to discuss it with your primary care physician or a qualified plastic surgeon. They can address your questions and concerns and assist you in determining whether a mommy makeover is the right choice for you.
