For years when I thought of Florida, I always thought first of Disney and Orlando. Of course I had three young children at the time. However now everyone is a little older and my kids have actually requested beach vacations. They just want to kick back and swim in the ocean, make a sandcastle on the beach or ride bikes around the area. This actually sounds like a pretty great vacation for me as well!  So let's Go on a Gulf County Florida Adventure.

KAYAK THROUGH THE DEAD LAKES

The Dead Lakes get their name from the Cypress and Tupelo trees that stand in the water. When the water is low, you can see the stumps rising out of the swamp. It’s like nothing you’ve seen before. People don’t know what you’re talking about and then they have an “aha” moment when they paddle around the shallows in the South Flats. The stumps are so concentrated; it’s like being on another planet. If you go out early in the morning in April, the birds are all coming into nest and other critters are just showing up. The fog comes off the water. It’s very still, where you feel like you’re in the wilderness.

BIKE RIDING

We are avid bikers in our family. We love bicycling together and going on adventures. We try to take our bikes on every vacation we go on. Gulf County is the perfect place to go out bike riding on an afternoon adventure by the coast and watch the eagles flying by!

HORSEBACK RIDING

My kids have been horseback riding several times and always beg us to take them again. I have always wanted to horseback ride right along the beach and I would love to do it with my family. I can imagine watching the sunset over the ocean.

GO SNUBA DIVING

For an extra day of fun, we would love to rent a charter boat and go “snuba” diving. Since Snuba allows you to dive with air but without the tank, there is no special certification needed.
