Gift Wrapping Hacks

Wrapping gifts can be fun and rewarding, but it can also be frustrating if you're not sure where to start. Here are some of the best gift-wrapping hacks to make your life easier and your presents look amazing:

Saving Time and Tape

  • Double-sided tape: Ditch the regular tape and invest in double-sided tape for a smoother, cleaner finish with no visible edges.
  • One-piece tape trick: For basic packages, cut a long piece of tape, fold it in half sticky side to sticky side, and wrap it around the box, tucking one end under the first flap you taped down. No more struggling with multiple pieces!
  • No-tape method: For small boxes or awkwardly shaped gifts, try folding and tucking the paper under itself for a secure hold. This works especially well with patterned paper that hides the folds.

Get Good Scissors

I love to always have a good pair of scissors on hand, I mean they are essential in the gift-wrapping process! I would recommend getting a nicer pair of scissors as well because it makes for an easier, cleaner cut when you go to cut your wrapping paper for each item. I know that sounds a bit strange, but why you do you need a nice pair of scissors? I promise it does make a difference between using a dollar-store pair of scissors versus one that is a bit more expensive and nicer

Presentation and Creativity

  • Furoshiki: Embrace the Japanese art of fabric wrapping for a sustainable and stylish alternative. Use scarves, bandanas, or even old shirts to create beautiful knots and folds.
  • Brown paper magic: Don't underestimate the power of plain brown paper! Add pops of color with twine, ribbons, dried flowers, or even stamps and stencils.
  • Mixed materials: Layer different textures like tissue papervellum, or burlap on top of your wrapping paper for added dimension and visual interest.
  • Personalized touches: Handwrite a message on the wrapping paper, add a sprig of rosemary for a festive scent, or attach a small ornament or handmade tag for a special touch.

Bows & Ribbons

I love to add ribbon wrapped around the gifts that I wrap. I think that it makes the present look great and more high quality! You don't necessarily have to put ribbon wrapped around every single present, but it is nice to add it to a few at least! Ribbons are also really great for tying together multiple presents if you have multiple for one person.

  • Wired ribbon: Use a wired ribbon for bows that hold their shape and are easy to manipulate.
  • Loop and pull method: Make perfect loops every time by making a small loop, pulling the ribbon under and around the opposite side, then repeating for the other side.
  • Fork technique: Pinch the center of your ribbon with a fork and tie a knot around the handle. Slide the fork off for a perfectly symmetrical bow.

Use High-Quality Wrapping Paper

I highly recommend upgrading to nicer wrapping paper because it does make a difference. I'm not recommending that you necessarily have to purchase the really expensive wrapping paper that is around $20 a roll! That's a bit excessive, but I would recommend getting higher-grade wrapping that costs about $4 or $5 each! The nicer wrapping paper is just a bit thicker and higher quality. You will have less tearing as you wrap and no one will be able to tear open their presents and snoop! LOL

Gift Tags

Cards are a great addition to your wrapping gifts! I love to always pick up little gift tags and cards for each of my presents. I like to make it a bit more personal and write each person a special little message with their gift! I think it's just a great addition to the gift-giving experience.

Embellishments

This is my absolute favorite part of wrapping presents by far! I love to get huge bows, curled ribbons, glittery tags, and such for my presents! I love to go a bit over the top with my gift wrapping! I like my presents to stand out! LOL

Bonus Hacks

  • Pre-cut wrapping paper: Save time by buying pre-cut sheets of wrapping paper in various sizes.
  • Gift wrapping station: Organize all your wrapping supplies in one place for easy access and a less chaotic experience.
  • Recycle and reuse: Repurpose old boxes, ribbons, and decorations to be eco-friendly and save money.

See, gift wrapping can be a ton of fun if you let it be! There are so many cool additions you can make to presents and maybe you aren't a professional wrapper, in the end, that doesn't matter…it's the effort you put into it! We hope that you are inspired by these Gift Wrapping Hacks. Happy wrapping!
