Tools for Learning
As an adult, I am still tasked with the challenge of learning. My time and my resources are almost always limited so I am constantly in search of rapid elearning or frankly, I just...
With over 650 games in my board game collection, I’ve had experience ordering from many publishers, sites, and web stores, and Asmodee is by far the most reliable store I’ve crossed paths with so far. Every order they’ve shipped has come undamaged, and the games are always secured and shipped with care.
Beyond the fact that the games arrive safely, they have an absolutely MASSIVE selection of games to choose from. As I continue to try out new games that are available on the Asmodee site, I will be updating this page with what I think about the games, as well as who I would recommend them to.
Starting off, the Revive tutorials I watched online gave me a real run for my money. It wasn’t till I got the game to the table, and actually started playing it that I realized just how much fun this game is!
Revive is a fun mix between engine building and deck building where each action you take can cause a ripple effect for the rest of the game. The game started off slow with round one consisting of me using only 3 card actions, but by the time the last round came, I had turns where I would play 6 cards in one round! The game truly builds onto itself as you go, with each decision being more puzzling than the last.
In the solo mode you have 20 card actions to take, meaning you can lay down 20 cards before the game is over. Some of these actions are taken up by the hibernating action that takes 2 of these actions to play. For example, in my first game I hibernated 3 times meaning that I had 14 card actions throughout the game [ 20 – ( 3 * 2 ) ].
I really enjoyed how the player boards worked as you’re trying to build out your technologies through the game. By gaining energy on the point track you can also be able to unlock and use new upgrades such as increasing your range when building by 1.
The exploration aspect of the game is really fun since this is the main way you can gain new cards from the market. By choosing new cards you determine what actions you will be able to take in future turns.
Overall Revive was a blast from the future and it will be seeing a lot of table time with solo play, as well as with my family! The game is all about making the most of your turns, and there is a feeling of the game being one big puzzle that makes me continuously want to play more! Revive has made a home for itself on my shelf, and I do not think it is leaving anytime soon!
I must admit, I have loved every Marvel board game I’ve tried over the past few years. Theme is such a big selling point to me, and having a game with a Marvel theme ensures that I will know the characters put in front of me on the table, helping to immerse me further into the game.
Starting off strong, CMON is known for their high quality miniatures and Marvel United: Multiverse is no exception! Every miniature is super detailed and adorable, this is arguably the cutest Marvel game I have ever seen! There are also a ton of heroes and villains to choose from adding to the diversity of the game.
I played my first game solo against Cosmic Ghost Rider with my main hero being Loki and my supporting heroes being Spider-Man 2099, Mighty Thor, and Captain Carter. I felt that the solo mode did a really good job of incorporating the game mechanics since the game is usually co-op.
I found that one of the biggest difficulties for me when playing this game was trying to leave room for new civilians or thugs in each location. When there wouldn’t be room for the new tiles, there would be negative effects on my heroes so I had to really prioritize these moves in my future games.
With these tactics in mind, I won the game with 18 on the punishment track (2 away from losing) as well as only two cards left in my hero's hand. The game was close, and I know a victory is not always certain when Marvel United: Multiverse makes it to the table.
As interesting and fun as the game is, the mechanics are really simple, making this the perfect game for a quick playthrough on a busy day. I also plan on sharing this game with my cousins who love all things Marvel as it is a great game to help get them into the board gaming hobby!
Coffee Rush is easily one of the cutest games I’ve ever played! I saw a review for this game recently and knew I had to try it out for myself, and I am sure glad I did! In Coffee Rush you will be working as a barista, assembling and completing customer orders as they come into your shop.
The mechanics of the game are super simple. You move your meeple 3 spaces on the main board, picking up each ingredient you pass over. There are upgrades you can unlock that help you gain more ingredients depending on certain criteria stated on the tiles. There are also Rush tokens that help you move more spaces in a single turn that are especially useful towards the end of the game.
Beyond the gameplay, the aspect of Coffee Rush that stands out the most is the components. This game has such an adorable table presence that I don’t think I will ever be able to get over it! In the game you are given 3 clear coffee cups to fill with the ingredients on your orders. These ingredient components are 3D and so high quality that it makes me want to reach for this game over and over again!
Overall, Coffee Rush was a hidden gem that has quickly become one of my favorite games! There is also an amazing solo mode featured on Board Game Geek for all the solo board gamers out there!
Pergola is a game that shows just how much creativity can go hand in hand with a board game night! In Pergola, you’ll be utilizing garden tools to add new plants and insects to your board and applying them in a way that gives you the most points at the end of the game. Each player will be given three connected boards, one for bees, one for your plants and insects, and the final one for your water drop bonuses. These three boards go together in a natural way that makes each turn feel extra intuitive.
The thing that I was unsure about Pergola, but wound up loving about it, was the amount of freedom you have when placing out your plants. This creative freedom adds to the game since it makes every game a different scene you’re building on the table.
I especially enjoyed the components for the insects. They are high quality and really help to make the game pop! All of the colors of Pergola are so pretty and really add to the table presence of the game.
In the end, Pergola is an evergreen nature game that will have a home on my shelf for years to come!
Overall, I really enjoyed these games from Asmodee, and will be sure to update you guys if I try any other games from their site. Thank you so much to Asmodee for sending these games over for this review!
I hope you love these games as much as I do, see you next time!
