The 2019 Mercedes AMG E53 Cabriolet is a sporty convertible with clean lines, cutting edge technology and world-class comfort in its interior. While 2019 awards are still being distributed, the E35 AMG is sure to net quite a few on the merits of its innovative design, superior handling and updated technology features. It showcases Mercedes's dedication to refined elegance and AMD's track record of excellence. It is also the first time in 20 years Mercedes has chosen to use the innovative in-line six-cylinder engine in an E Class automobile. We hope that you enjoy this 2019 Mercedes AMG E53 Cabriolet review.
This is also the first model year in which an E-Class Mercedes convertible receives its AMG rating. The division of Mercedes-Benz known as AMG focuses on taking existing car designs and upgrading them with proprietary performance improvements. Enhancing road handling, increasing the engine's power and adding visual appeal are all part of the AMG treatment. An AMG Mercedes is perfect for discerning collectors or car enthusiasts who insist on having the very finest build of that particular model.
The E53 Cabriolet commands an impressive 429 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque from its 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder engine. This translates into just over four seconds for the driver to reach 60 mph from a standstill position. A speed inhibitor guards against the car reaching above a top speed of 130 mph. The I6 engine borrows additional horsepower from a mild hybrid system. This system harnesses the 48-volt electrical generator housed between the engine and the transmission, teaming up with an electric compressor to provide an instant burst of energy that would traditionally be powered by engine combustion.
The interior of the E53 AMG embraces the luxury that Mercedes is famous for, from the hand-stitched leather seats to the 12.3-inch touchscreen set into the dashboard. Drivers will benefit from no less than five separate driving modes to enhance their experience on the road. The selection of Sport, Sport+, Comfort, Individual or Eco will personalize the car's performance to the characteristics of the road. Eco saves on gas mileage by becoming more efficient at the expense of acceleration power, Comfort places the suspension and steering at a higher priority than speed, Sport and Sport+ deliver more power and Individual mode allows the driver to configure settings to their own personal specifications.
In line with Mercedes's history as an industry leader, the E53 AMG offers drivers the latest in technology features. A Burmester audio system with up to 23 speakers delivers concert hall quality throughout the cabin. The touchscreen configures to both Android and Apple operating systems, and the steering wheel has an array of touch controls so the driver won't need to hunt for necessary buttons. A USB port and wireless charging pad ensure all devices remain fully charged.
Safety and technology merge in an active blind spot monitoring system and automatic braking in the event of an emergency. Optional upgrades include a 360-degree camera, lane departure warning, reverse obstruction alert and a head-up display. There's also an adaptive cruise control system as an option, aiding the driver by automatically scanning the road ahead for obstructions and alternatively accelerating or decelerating in line with surrounding traffic as the situation warrants.
Gently curving lines characterize the exterior body, with the cabriolet offering drivers a soft top convertible and the coupe a hard top that matches the vehicle's body paint. Chrome accents frame the front grille, highlight the centrally placed Mercedes badge and follow the barrier lines over the fog lights. The rear of the vehicle features two dual exhaust ports balancing either side of the bumper, with high visibility LED brake lights and a curved rear window above.
The 2019 E53 Cabriolet represents a crowning achievement for Mercedes AMG, a vehicle that is equally at home accelerating down the highway or maneuvering around town. This Mercedes trim will receive almost no competition from other car makers, as BMW retired its 6 Series, placing the E53 in a class of its own. Drivers will savor its road performance almost as much as they appreciate the comforts of its cabin, making it a vehicle well matched to discerning drivers. We hope that you are inspired by this 2019 Mercedes AMG E53 Cabriolet review. Happy driving!
Thanks to Mercedes for the loaner to review during the Girls Guide to Cars Conference in Palm Springs last year. It wasn't nearly long enough so please bring another one to my house for a while. Thanks. Love you!
