A family vacation in Ireland is a lovely way to spend time together, learn about another country, and relax. After arrival at either Shannon Airport (near Galway) or Dublin Airport, picking up a rental car, getting lost three times finding the family’s weekly rental cottage (and, yes, expect this) and unpacking, the kids ask, ‘What's next?' Do the kids love animals? Of course they do! Therefore, take a journey up to Northern Ireland and see the free Tannaghmore Animal Farm and Gardens in County Armagh. There the kids can play with the ducks, the pigs and the famous black-faced sheep on a farm that is a replica of Ulster life 100 years ago. At night, take them to an historic medieval feast. At Bunratty Castle in the Shannon region that will cost the family of four about €175 for a full night's raucous entertainment.

The spectacular scenery is always nearby. Whether it is the Cliffs of Moher in Clare County, or a drive (yes, again with the getting lost, which is inevitable since the directions from the ever-helpful Irish will involve the words ‘turn at the pub') up to the Wicklow Mountains, fall in love with the most beautiful island on Earth.
